Just don't push the service as far as have in the past "dropping parts off at midnight" LOL... Charlie is one of the best for sure. When Scott Porta is impressed with someone's welding ability then you can be assured that he is the real deal. He has saved many blocks and cases in his day and the end result is always a TEN.

No need to pin the nut if you use the wide one. OMC that's another story.

I found a few pics to go with what I was saying .

    weld the housing bore ...

bore to size ( or oversize depending on condition )
More times than not , the case needs to be bored .005 - .015 bigger to get the hole round again .....

    Chase threads ....

Once the case is complete ....

Then I weld a small amount of filler around the rear load bearing area and turn it down to the new OD ..

Recut the keyway slot and it's ready to go ....

It does marry the carrier and case together as it a unit that wont interchange with other stock parts . But it will put those parts back in service , rather than throwing them in the .44c a pound scrap pile ...

And the Threads that the other guy did looked like they had been chewed back into the case. I had to clean them up then I coated them with a DFL (Dry Film Lubricant) coating. This not only protected the Nut and case threads from corrosion but made that Nut almost glide itself in.

Just to be clear. What Bud posted above was not about Chaz's work but the person who did Dave's case. FYI
