After trying the X which was a very nice 65 original hour 2005 powerhead, I quickly went back to the XS due to the low range. The 22 had a range of appr 150-175 miles with the X - the XS was over 260 miles. On another note- the XS was faster w/ 100% fuel vs the X when at 100%.
I think this line will be the tell for the 400R...load the boat up for the day and it will still run the number.
It is very new and the speed merchants and boat builders have to work out the set ups. Exciting times for boaters guys!

This came from the owner and the mechanic. I assumed it ran that. I will verify it through pics or video from now on. I know the owner of the Cali boat has asked for my advise and my advice only on the set up and the deal we have is if I am to help, it has to be my way and cutting out all of the keyboard racers ways.

Just to clarify, a Talon we built originally for a 300XS and now has a 400R on it has run 112 mph per the pic of the gps speedo. Maybe it is photo-shopped. I will look into it, but right now I have boats to build. Thank you

Todd, I'm only posting facts about what is going on with the red 22 w/ 400R that is out here where I live. The guy that rigged the boat (you refer to him as "the mechanic") was just at my house yesterday and told me of this news that the boat is coming back to him. He is the one that drove the boat to 100mph after trying 4 different props (the boat only ran 84mph the first day). He is laughing about the whole thing because the owner of the boat thought he could take it elsewhere and have it "dialed-in" better for more speed, and "elsewhere" ended up only making the boat slower and costing him more time and money. The boat is now going back to Boatmasters where it will be re-rigged back to it's original setting, and Andrew (the guy that rigged the boat) feels they might get a few more mph out of it if the owner is willing to buy/try more props. Andrew has never said a word to me about thinking the boat had 115mph in it, as it took four different props just to get it to 100mph. I'm not being a "hater" of your boats, or the 400R, I'm simply posting facts about the 22 in my area for others to read about. Trust me, if it runs a good #, I'll post that up as well! And I agree with you making a video of a run like I did with my 28/XSs, because then there can be no arguments about what the boat is doing.

Just got off the plane from Tijuana ... err ... California .
Beat the prop around the trailer hitch ball with a ball-peen , did my typical Radio Shack $3.29 + tax , resister's and potentiometers between the IAT , MAP , Cly head temp sensor's and the ECU ....
    Wind wuz blowin , so it only went 129.375 .. beside's Davie wasn't there , so I wasn't racin ...

There is another new Talon 22ss 400R boat coming up soon. I am going to let Greg Terizan run it and report on it. You all can argue with him then.

Im not sure Greg is even a real person let alone knows how to rig / drive a boat. Send that Bi$th my way! It will either go or blow.

Are you sure that you know what you are doing? I heard that you didn't perfect the set up of your argo--LOL, I still can't believe that he had the balls to even say that.

    Todd,

I don't think anyone is questioning your boats or build quality etc. The fact is that no one has taken a single 400 application and gone any faster then the same hull will run with a hundred horsepower less. Brent was the first guy and he became frustrated after quickly realizing that it just wasn't there. Don't take your eye off of the ball that you need to pay attention to (building boats) and fall into the same waste of time that everyone else so far has experienced. There is nothing to prove or we would have already seen it. These motors are going to need more boost or more cubes to stand apart from the 10 to 15 year old motors that we still have access to.

Hi guys - Just got in from the lake with my 22 Talon - 400R . The best speed this boat ran with a 300X was 93 mph. Altitude here is 1800ft . Three boats that were brought to my lake from close to sea level, lost 9-11mph. My Talon is John McKnight's old boat. He says it went 101 when he had it. Anyway, after I broke it in, I put on the only prop I had that suited this boat - a 31 Bravo my dealer loaned me. First pass 101 mph on GPS on the limiter. The engine can be run 1/2 to 3/4 higher I found during break in with a 27 Bravo. I lowered the engine for speed run so I could pay attention to driving and not water pressure. Of course I didn't raise it - since it was on the limiter anyway. The acceleration is incredible. My beach is .8 of a mile - from a dead stop to 100 mph took about 2/3 of the beach - I was running towards the closed end - so I needed slow down room. With the 300X it would take better than a mile to see 93 - most of the time 90 - 91 was top speed. I'll get some bigger props raise the engine and post the results. I plan to video the runs and post on here as Razor did - then there is no b.s. Speaking of Rayzor - yes the boat felt a little tail heavy but not bad at all. I'm going to move the battery 10 ft ahead and once I establish the best engine height I will take off the hydraulic jack and build a fixed bracket - should be able to save 25lbs - the hydraulic jack and pump weighs 51 lbs. The thing I cant believe is the boat doesn't feel top heavy (high cg) , and turns the same as it did with the 300x. Where's Mike Nass when you need him - the upper engine cowl weighs 17lbs , and the lower is 11 1/2 lbs. Bob Cruse.

Update on my 22 Talon - 400R - Put on a box stock Bravo 1 - not labed 32 pitch - 106.4 mph. Way too much slip, calculated mph is 121 mph ( at 7000 rpm ) I need to work on that. I expect that a better prop may give me me a few more mph - I will do my homework on which prop to try. Gain in mph over 300x - 13mph , second time out . I would like to see 112 like the red one in California - I think that is doable . So far no prop failures. Bob C.

To get 5 more mph you have to go to the Maximus props. To get another 5 mph on top of that you have to go to the Mercury CNC prop. That is how we are getting the boats over 110 mph with the 400R. We will post the end results when the peak is reached and with video. Call me Bob if you need to.

Where is this 112 # coming from for the red 22 out here in California??? That boat has never run over 100.......after multiple different props and two different setback brackets. Not saying it's never going to run over 100, but so far, it's run a best of 100mph.
