Not to mention that boats run faster in saltwater vs fresh...

I miss the salt water running from where I lived in FL, but I sure don't miss the maintenance or used motors that are a nightmare to wrench on. Up here it's pretty common to see motors almost 50 years old that still come apart like they're brand new.

Agreed..

I was born and raised in Miami and had several different types of boats over the 40 years there. Ran my Checkmates in salt and freshwater.
I don't miss the corrosion/electrolysis issues either.
Any marine tech tool box had a set of Oxy/Acetylene smoke wrenches setting next to it
.
Dis-assembling a LU that had any time on it required drilling holes in the lock ring and pulling it out in chunks to save the threads in the housing, then steady stern pressure on the carrier with a puller and heat the housing just to get the carrier out....maybe
Pro's and con's both ways though.

I live on the outer banks of North Carolina and I too have noticed a lack of fast boats around. My wife and I fish most weekends usually near a marina with a public boat ramp and most everything that cruises by is a center console or john boat. I'm slowly restoring an old black Checkmate to get at some better fishing and do some skiing, Ive got this feeling we'll be the odd boat out there

I disassembled my last FL part a month ago, the tilt tube was so seized up the trim motor had a hard time moving it. Had to cut it up then force it out with a puller and HEAT. Not sure if I'll sell the parts or try to rescue it.
