Remember when 60 was fast
When I was a kid growing up on the barnegat bay we had a green metallic avenger with a 150 Merc, there was a couple donzi's a sidewinder and one v-drive boat. I think 60-65 was tops for all these boats and that was fast. Even the one guy we knew with a 30 Scarab was probably only running 60. This was late 70's I am referring to.

My 1st 60+mph boat was a '79 Donzi 18ft with 350 alfa! It has changed a little with the Argo!

I'm probably going to regret this, but here goes. I grew up on a relatively small pond near Lake Ontario in the 1960s. The fastest boat on the pond was a friend's older brother's 16' Duo with a (white) 50 HP Merc screwed to the transom. It did something blistering - according to the speedometer - like 45 MPH. Man that was flying!

My first was a 16' checkmate diplomat with a 120 Force - Did a whopping 50! Next was a p.o.s. 21'bayliner with a 175 blackmax. only 45 on that pile of garbage before the steering stem froze and I junked the boat. 2 projects being built now - - - But I'm still in my twenties! (for another year). Can't wait to have a 100mph boat one day
