My QUEST towards 60+ MPH in a fliver... (My fliver thread)
Well I bought the fliver from 'scream and fly' himself. The day I got it put a 25 yami on and it was a BLAST!!! Had blisters on BOTH hand, one from the tiller and the other from hanging on to the bond line.
I then borrowed a 15 merc from a friend and the boat was cool to cruise around but nothing exciting.
So then it came to me having to find an engine... I hit up every marina and not a single one had anything worth a darn. The only other place I knew to check was a little boat shop place, well he had a 1987 Yamaha 30hp 3 cyl.
He said the motor ran three months ago, and it was in almost new condition. The only rust or corrosion is on the steering tube and the bolt at the bottom of the transom bracket. Took 'er home for 400 bucks, cleaned the carbs, checked the gear lube and went through the whole thing. Started up 2nd pull.
It sounds like a merc v6 in and out of the water, it sweet!
Took it out to the lake just before dark and holt $*** is it fast! Never got it over half throttle and it does and easy 40 at under half throttle! Cant wait to bolt 'er down tomor. and really romp on it!
Will have some pics up tomorrow and possibly a video!Last edited by xr1million; 09-28-2008 at 08:50 AM.

i ran 1 with a 40 mariner,
but w/cable sreering and a dead mans throttle, mounted in the bow area. be careful, i was on my knees holding a wheel, wheeling all the way, i'cant imaging doing it sitting w/only 1 hand controling it. i wore the skin off my knees in about 10 mins.
most overnite successes usually take at least 10 years

Get a GPS and tell us the real speed ... half throttle doesn't mean half speed. Its almost impossible to get a prop for the top speed you are imagining ... and Mr. Fun is right, you need safety equipment for something that dangerous ... kill switch racing jacket etc

I know half throttle doesnt mean half speed, but the thing will be crazy! Im just finishing getting the bugs worked out of the motor and will be out on the lake in an hour or so.
Yea the prop situation is the only thing that I have really been wondering about. Might have a prop shop do some work on what ever is the biggest prop I can find...

5 posts and 7 years of schooling in marine engine technology, 1st place at a national marine competition in High school with a full paid ($22,000) scholarship to Marine Mechanics Institute, where I was basically another instructor. And working in and for mx and pit bike teams since 2000. And building boat and motorcycle motors damn near every day since I was 14... which Im 21 now.
So Im not some bozo who thinks he knows everything... I know enough to get through life easily!
And working on my ME degree.

I got it out on the lake today... still fixing some bugs in it. The fuel pump had a broken reed and wasnt pumping fuel, the water pickup tube ad old pieces of impeller stuck in it and the thermo was stuck open but clogged with corrosion. The motor runs great except at top end... it seems a bit lazy, so there will be some more digging into it tomorrow and I will be sure to get video!
But as of know it will launch itself clean out of the water!
And left the house completely forgetting about the GPS today...

But, you will find that really fast boats and race boats are completely different from anything else on earth. Very little of your schooling and past land experience will directly apply. With almost 50 years of experience, it keeps me humble.

WOW XR1million settle down. That's great you have the schooling & smarts. But if Mark75H has 50 years of boating experience, I would listen to him.
Members on this board have own the same boats with different motors & have vet to hit 60mph. Members want you to be careful because they driven the same wild boat.
You will not find a better High performance Site then Scream & Fly.
Hope you will calm down & listen - ask ? & respect members.
