Thanks for your replies. The reason I'm asking is I believe I have never worked on a CCC that hasn't been re-painted....so nothing I've seen can be confirmed to be "painted" from the race group. All of the motors had the red sealer and it is obvious that was applied by dipping the entire (unmachined) block. I'm trying to think how many silver ones I've seen (now working on my 10th CCC), but it is probably very close to the number that were white. I agree that the silver paint is very close to the natural casting color - sometimes hard to tell its painted. I've never worked on a block that had any traces of orange or red. ????????? SO what do I paint Steve Larkin's next two motors??? I'm thinking silver. I notice that Eastwood has an "aluminum" color paint. Might order some of that.

The 2.0 litre crossflow engines were all red some would say orange.The 2.5 Johnson RS crossflow engines were painted dark gunmetal grey same as the engine pan and centre sections.So when you took a new complete outboard out of a box it looked like a std production engine.

‎OMC gave us Johnson GT and EVINRUDE XP high performance engines. I'm thinkin' there are quite a few out there ,and GT-XP ENGINES ARE very COLLECTABLE. Find one and keep it, better yet RUN IT.
