Paypal user's
Did anyone else get an email like this.---
Dear paypal user, We would like to inform you that we are upgrading our server to install a better protection software. So please click here and fill in the registration form again to renew your account.
Paypal Administration.
Thank you for a using PayPal!
If you click on the link it takes you to a screen that requires you to enter in all sorts of nice information. Credit card #, address, phone number. What I thought was funny was you have to also enter the little 3 degit number on the back.
The part I also thought interesting was this form was not secure.
I sent an email back and asked for more information. We'll see what they come back with.

I got it too. Sounds like some kind of a scam.

I signed up for pay pal last week and had to enter my credit card # to do business (or my bank account info). They asked for the three diget # on the back but I'm sure it was secure. I paid my S&F dues and bought At100plus's prop and all went through fine.
Am I alright???

Pay Pal
Those e-mail's are a scam. I have received the same thing. Pay Pal says to be wary of e-mails like this and to forward them to Pay Pal. The first one that was sent to me was on an e-mail address that I rarely use so I spotted it as a fake right away. Pay Pal is a great service just be careful you are actually at Pay Pal. Read their site for details.

Here's a warning from PayPal:
Protect Your PayPal Account
Recently, PayPal members have reported suspicious-looking emails and fake websites. These fraudulent emails may address you with the salutation "Dear PayPal User" or "Dear PayPal Member." These emails are not from PayPal. PayPal will only address you by your first and last name, or the business name associated with the account.
Use the following tips to protect your PayPal account:
Safely access the PayPal website or your PayPal account by opening up a new web browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape) and type in the following: https://www.paypal.com/
Never give out the following information in an email:
First name, last name, business name
Email and password combination
Credit card, bank account, and PIN number
Social security and driver's license number
Do not download attachments, software updates, or any application to your computer via a link you received in an email. PayPal will not ask you to download anything for your account to work.
Choose a unique password and change it every 30-60 days.
If you think you have received a fraudulent email, please forward the entire email to spoof@paypal.com and then delete it.

Are you guys getting "Verified" also??
-
Verified
Yes Pay Pal requires this. I guess its just part of them knowing we are who we say we are.
-
Scam
I also received the email, deleted it this morning. Figured it was a scam also.

Hi Guys,
I intentionally decided not te verify my paypal account.
The way I understood it is verified users get higher "credit".
To minimize possible damages I left the paypal account unverified.
Is this a wrong line of thought?

Hi,
This is a common eBay, Paypal and bank scam.
Do not under any circumstances enter you bank information. In fact, I would refrain from entering the three digit number on your credit card ever online. I did it with Bidpay, my number got stolen, they found my social security number on the credit card bank site, used internet search to find my mother's maiden name, changed the address used for credit, then charged a bunch of stuff on it. Thankfully, the credit card company noticed and contacted me. I'm still working on getting my social security number fixed. I applied for credit and an address in Davenport, FL came up. WTF? I live in Kansas City, MO! Just remember that when you enter your information, it is on that site and if someone hacks the database (and there are experts at this), not only can your credit information be stolen, so can your identity. The problem comes from the fact that our social security number was never meant to be used as a form of identification. It was created for tax purposes only. If you use it on your drivers license, have it changed. Lose your wallet and your identity can be stolen and sold. Happens all the time.
I will never give out the three digit number online or over the phone. It is an open invitiation to be ripped off. Find another place to do business. I refuse to use Paypal; they require your BANK account information. If that information is stolen, your money can be electronically removed and you can do nothing. The only place that gets my bank account is my job so they can deposit money into it. Call me paranoid however, I'm still working on getting things back to normal and that was last year.
Report these e-mails to the internet fraud site, eBay site, and/or Paypal site. The FBI wouldn't be a bad place to try either.

you're asking for.....
trouble when your eBay user name is the same as your e-mail address. You've just done 99% of the work for them.

PayPal and eBay will never ask for passwords or credit card numbers . All of these emails are scams and should be forwarded (with full headers) to their fraud divisions .

Paypal
Come on Guys!!!!
After reading your comments I see how people get scammed!
1st. Paypal NEVER asks for you to verify anything by e-mail! With the exception of 2 small deposits to open an account.
2nd. If you think thy do you are WRONG!
3rd. You want to become a verified member....It reduces your liability in case of fraud.
4th. Verification is done through the snail-mail only. Account verification requires you to give paypal the exact amount of (2) deposits and nothing else. This verifies you have access to the bank account.
5th. ALL PAGES OF PAYPAL have the following:
Https://
Notice the "S" this means it is on an encryted PayPal server.
6th The CVN #'s on a credit card are to verify you have the card in front of you not just a stolen number from the web. By using the CVN number on actual purchases it ceritfies YOU are the credit card owner.
If you have further real questions regarding paypal e-mail me and I will happily help you.
NO I AM NOT A PAYPAL EMPLOYEE.....HOWEVER MY FIANCE IS... Account Security Specialist.
