I have a 89 HST at the end of the tunnel their is a adjustable plate ,how much should it be shimmed down?
Old thread you replied to; but have you read this: http://hydrostream.org/TechTalk/HSTtunnelext.htm
Any HST's running in Florida or St Petersburg/Tampa area?
mine just had some washers between the plates and the hull on the very back edge ,just woundering what speeds are everyone getting? ive gotten 109 at 8200 rpm 28"prop with a full tank of gas on a hot day with a 2.5 280 with a little more playing maybe 112-115 :D
Rtarford. Post soms pics of your hst. What prop do you run and How much setback? Any idea how much the hull weighs? 109 is Fast!!!
28in. et don't know what name brand. 12" 4" setback 8Attachment 328861Attachment 328859" for hydraulic jack plate. no idea how much it weighs. How much Attachment 328860do they normally weight? It was too windy to get it out last weekend. I only go down there on weekends.
You are doing pretty good at 190 with the 280 based on speeds I have compiled from others over the year. I do think you could get it into the teens with work on the setup. I think most of the higher numbers involve a clever usually.Setback looks good, but where are you running the prop in regard to the pad? Weight is a big thing too as others have said. A lot weight in around 950 on the hull, but many nowadays have water in the foam within the sponsors, which can weight quite a bit.
I have a work steel sleave carbed 2.5 doing 95 with 29 RE4 on a sporty, but I think I can get 100 out of it with another prop and additional tuning on the engine (need new stator and leaning the jets).
By the way, that is the first HST I have seen handing on davits. How do you have the bow hooked up?
I used a soft tie down used for a motorcycle 12" long 3800 lbs. nylon webbing doubled over. plenty strong. Hopefully the bow eye won't pull out! The 2 stern eyes pulled out luckily I caught it b/f the boat dropped. Had to reinforce the stern and put bigger eyes, now it's good.
Attachment 329043 I had washers between the back edge of the plates and the tunnels but reading an article on this site I took them out and sealed up around all the edges. I haven't had a chance to put it in the water since then, hopefully it was the right thing to do?
Attachment 330931 Made a big difference. I bought this boat when I was 25 , I'm pushing 50 now. I was never able to lift the bow with using the trim on the engine. The nose was very heavy and I had a hard time breaking loose from smooth water. Last time out that all changed, the plates aren't pushing the nose down anymore. It was hard to get between 90 & 100 with the tabs down. Now its easy but I have to learn how to fly it all over again.
