Can’t see them allowing a drive past in the docks —— Bristol council are adamant there will never be another race at Bristol , they wont even discuss it . Seven fatalities didnt help either .
Charlie Shepperd was a bit like BARNUM—- he made things happen — he was MR.BRISTOL. He had the idea— he arranged for a dozen of us to test the circuit around the docks . He was boss at every race ever held in the docks .
he was the one that told the wives they were now widows — Bristol had the hype ——- the sponsors—- the money for huge prizes. A promotors dream. the competitors —-the publicity——-and the fatalities . It was not all glamour at Bristol- there was a huge Down side to it .
Yes Roy-i will be attending the [REUNION]meeting Mainly because it will be one of the last i will ever attend — common sense tells me that. Plus -i was unable to attend the previous Bristol meeting with Billy.
I refused to race at Bristol for many years , but i succumbed to it in later years . I always liked racing at Bristol, but i always drove well within my limitations — never „“over the top“.
Just 165 places at the dinner —- been told there are only a precious few still available —- would indeed be a coup if Renato would turn up but he‘s old before his time —- racing was kind to me — but it wasn’t to the Maestro.

Whenever you visited the molinari factory—- you always wound up „“giving a hand“— this could be anything from getting the truck to start—- building a double decker trailer to save haulage costs Or cooking a full american breakfast at Johns for a bunch of homesick american mechanics .

Johns restaurant was a family favorite in our household.

Been fernagling as i tend to do on occasions when i am distracted .
Was a time in history when all seafaring boats were constructed of timber —- then they came out of a bucket . Craftsmanship was no longer needed . Vacuum packed bullet proof —— cad designed on a puter by a clever little bugger who wouldnt know the difference between an oak and a mulberry bush.
Cutting back to the chase —- i came across a bent and broken travelling box belonging to a captain Tom Phillips in Singapore . Ten pounds and i had half a dozen lengths of one inch solid teak planks.

FINALLY FINISHED THE CHELSEA VICTORIAN STREET LAMP.. IN THE END IT CAME OUT REALLY WELL.
Simply had to strip and rebuild . Polish all the copper ware and do some reconstruction of the ornamental lead fretwork.

Breakfast at Goodwood house. Earl of March owns the whole estate. Has one of the finest motor racing circuits in the world.
Qualifying started at nine in the morning and continued for the next 11 hours. Last heat was the LEMANS cars . With headlights blazing.
Average field is between 25 and 30 cars . All of these are historic race cars—-average price is over a million pounds apiece —- around 200 cars ——— mind boggling figures .
to walk through the paddocks [four of them] Over thirty racing Jaguars ——— twenty Shelby Cobra‘s
Twenty Ferraris —— a. dozen Maseratis. Thirty Lotus - Renards —Vanwall—Elva—-Allard race cars. Thirty cars lined up for that particular race .
main event was a 45 minute dash for 1970‘s cars —— 30 entrants —-you run what you brung. Only place where you can see aMINI COOPER S“. Wedged between a Mustang and a pair of hot Camero‘s .
Muscle power lead for most of the way in the form of Yank V8‘s —-a mustang —then the Cammero was eventual winner . BMW 2002 was right up there with the cooper s fading towards the end .
to see the E type Jags and the Ferrari’s and Maseratis [25 in this event] racing against each other was awesome.
11 hours of nonstop racing was mind-blowing. This was qualifying—with the racing proper today—- but i have had my fill—- rolled into bed at 11-00 pm. I am resting all day today.
Only place in the world where this happens —— every historic race car owner was there with his steed . All privately owned . One thing for certain -they will never get rid of fossil fuels —-all the time there are petrolheads living. Tbc.

ALLARDS were built by SYDNEY ALLARD in very limited quantities . Almost always had the big ole yank Vee eight in them with a sooting big HOLLEY FOUR BARREL on the top ——- was a bit like driving a SHERMAN TANK IN REVERSE. NO SUCH THING AS POWER STEERING IN THOSE DAYS.
