Lars, how fast does that class run w- the 150 ETec? Looks like a fun and affordable class!
The W-150 class (cats) with EPA approved production engines like the Evinrude E-TEC 150 H.O. runs close to 80 MPH. Driver and co-pilot and fuel for around one hour.
(the engines must be stock, no powerhead modifications but you can have a nosecone with low water pick up.
Thanks for asking.
The V-150 class is same engines but v-bottoms only and some transom height limitations.
They use the letter Z and here is a Z-118 and Z-122.

What is the reason for the second person in the boat?
It’s Offshore Racing and you need a navigator to find the shortest way to the finish line.

Rick Frost's F1-V8 Johnson 2 stroke 3.5 liter looper, carb model with 12 inch mid section from 1983.
Left hand turning prop.

I can only answer this way,
The Evinrude/Johnson V6 CCC/RS was introduced 1976 as a 2.448 liter cross-flow.
The same mid section/gearcase was also used for the 2 liter looper, 2.6 liter cross-flow and the 3 liter looper with fuel injection.
Some mid sections/gear cases was modified by OMC during the years depending on the powerhead.
Don't remember the prop. shaft being a problem but could have been changed for reasons I don't know about.
Thanks for asking.
Jim, I have wondered the same thing. I now have had two of the long hub CCC/RS gearcases that will take the long hub Mercury props that had more pitch than OMC props. The spline is about 3/4" longer on this prop shaft. The spline angle is just a bit different I
believe, as a Mercury spline washer won't fit the OMC...or maybe it was the other way around ???
Anybody out there that can address the long propshaft "mystery"? Jim Nerstrum?
This picture shows the longer spline prop shaft (happens to be on a 727 gearcase) and the shorter shaft on a CCC/RS gearcase.

OMC updated racing parts to the better all the time and pretty sure its the same thing with this prop. shaft.
The 3 liter looper, with fuel injection was way more powerful than the first cross-flow 2.448 liter CCC/RS. Still using the same name on the cowling.

They also put the long hub prop shaft on the CCC/RS gearcases...I have two of them. (shown w/ & w/o with long hub prop)

Wow 3.0 looper?
I remember when the Mercury boys was making fun of OMC when the new 6 inch mid section broke for the F1-V8 fuel injections 1985..and Bertil Wik crashed in Minneapolis GP..
Well..Karma is a bitch..:)

Hows the passage straight to the bore?

I was at this race in Nashville (6/2016) and talked with Ray Briefly about his boat/motor. His wife had asked him what he wanted to do for his birthday.....and his reply was he'd like to get the boat out and run the Nashville race. It won it's first heat race with Tim Seebold in that heat! Not sure what happened on Sunday. Ray drove the boat very well and it performed well in the first heat.
Attachment 394181 You can see the Tim's sponson on the outside.
Attachment 394182
Wow That yammy must run well to take on the Seebolds as they seem to set the pace at the race's they attend from what I've seen....I had a chance to attend Gulfport last April and enjoyed it so much I'll be there next yr!

I got all the info from Ted Zahorski
He was part of the Yamaha team developing racing V-6 powerheads, midsections and gearcases.
Ron Anderson also told me the same thing at an Old Farts Meeting in Naples a few years ago.
Yamaha copied a Merc racing gearcase but run in to some gear problems after a few hours running them.

Japs never throw any tooling out
So they could come back
They seem very tall, propshaft to powerhead?
A Rotary – (Wankel) wins the 2 liter class in Paris 6 hours 1970.

Yes, I have totally forgot about this but two friends of mine drove a
V-bottom boat powered with a NSU Rotary (Wankel) to victory in the UIM Class R-3. (Max 2 liter inboards)
Here is a few pictures of Krusenstierna and Zetterstrom´s green Joker boat # 115 powered by a NSU Rotary – (Wankel)
Red arrow.
This boat was used in many races in Sweden over a few years and was doing very good.
