Indeed it did Pilgrim! The DFX was pulling way over a thousand hp——— Indy cars used them———Cart series used them.
Even passed Ferrari’s grand total at around the 150 F1 victories.
Not bad for a bunch of college kids with ambition ?
If you ever need a rundown on just how bloody good that engine really was———- Malcolm TYRRELL or Ian Hawkins could tell you all about each and every one of the number of variations of the DFV.
PAUL WAY ——worked alongside them both before he moved to the USA and started ILMOR !
They werent versions of the dfv they were totally different engines.
They were v8 with 4 valves, that was the only common feature
yes different vee angles, different valve angles etc etc
They did also pioneer the 20,000 rpm engines as well with lots of clever simple engineering

Duckworth was pontificating over a pint in his local pub one evening with me included —— ( he loved his jar of ale and a ciggy)——- he said something I’ll always remember“ It’s all about Friction, Balance and tolerance——get that right, and you’ve done away with vibration “
Malcolm TYRRELL said “ If it don’t go—-chrome it” to a gorilla at Parker whilst perusing a very hot KT,
We managed to avoid a fracas.
He also said air line pressure in a workshop should never exceed 30 psi ?
Weird the odd things you remember as you do through life
Ian “Hawkeye” Hawkins only ever talks about food these days ?
Wednesday already and the goose is getting fat—— really should make a move and get my arse in gear!
30psi...air tools wont like that
Pretty sure the pressure at Cosworth’s was turned up sky high———- be surprised if they used air tools—- torque wrenches were used for everything!
Malcolm used to hate the high pressure at his bench when he was building engines—— he preferred low pressure.
I have a Tecalamit compressor that chucks out 30psi the minute I turn it on, and stops immediately it’s switched off————- no holding cylinder. Best thing I ever did !

That represents one one hundred hours worktime———- twenty five hours a week for the last month !

Dont have a half decent picture of the number 6——— Only finished it this morning——- it’s a hell of a lot better than it looks in the picture—- yes, you could shave in it too..
Anyway, it’s on its way to florida, along with the last six concepts, including the two V8 Jonrude rigs.
Don’t have anything I the pipeline at this moment in time—- do need to have huge clear ups in the shop, can’t work with all the crap I have around me !
Problem I have is—- when I get a wriggle on, head down and arse up mode, I tend to be a tad untidy.
I have to be in “Pensive” mood, with ten minutes to spare before I pick up the broom !
Took me all afternoon to carefully pack the stuff off to America—— weighed in at fifteen kilos—- just hope that they get there in time for the OFF meeting.
Been in full time employment the last month or so——- had two thirty five hour weeks in the shop—- if this keeps up I’m asking for a raise ?
Thursday AGAIN in a couple of hours——- Jesus but time flies when you’re having fun——- treasure hunting tomorrow——- don’t need a damn thing any more—— guess I just got into the habit of searching for something that’s worth nothing at all when you found it ?
Nothing going on——- just the car boot——- really windy but no rain——- anorak weather——- clocks go back in two weeks, then it really will seem like summers gone for good.
Pilgrim——- I got it wrong, the P1 boats are having new decks——— new P1 doesn’t come out till next year——- understand it’s a nice boat—— nothing like the present day “slab”.
Came across a huge chunk of two by ten Far East mahogany———- well it is a bit red, certainly heavy hardwood.
Put it through the bandsaw , just to see what sort of shape I could get out of it——- then hit it with one of the many spokeshaves ive acquired over the years—— yup, it’s one of those new hardwoods with the soft centre—— grain runs every which way but loose, no matter how sharp your tooling is —- you have to put the sander on it to get anything like a half tidy finish.
Might take a shot at something, using wood as the base———sick to my plectrums of solid alloy——- just too much mess and filings.
Sure I’ll think of something to cobble together before the sun goes over the yardarm.
So a total redesign of the P1 hull coming? Wilson Composite the manufacturer of record or others?
So—— I put this hunk of hardwood through the bandsaw—— caressed it, fondled it and turned it over a few times——- took out a handful of spokeshaves—— started sliding them along the grain in the hope that some sort of recognisable shape would transpire.
Wasnt long before something familiar started to emerge——guess what’s coming into shape???
Was thinking of Gene at the time, I must confess !
Tell you what—- if nobody guesses before I go to bed tonight——- I’ll post a progress pickie !
Progress is being made, Jackie
But promises have been broken
It has taken nearly five weeks
Now the work can continue!!
http://i68.tinypic.com/fut4eh.jpg
Hey Gene, You got exactly four weeks to get the old MALIBUSTANG ticketed——- you could land that bird inside the hallowed gates of X while we are all waiting on the outside ?
With so much going on and global coverage of Christian Tolls exploits with the old legend—— I must have gotten inside information from somewhere——— Damned if I didn’t get my nose to the grinder and make good progress today.
Roughed out the boat——— cut out all the pieces for a pair of Mercruisers——- tapped the necessary fixings——- did the rear vents ————- and that stupid little deflecter upfront.
Have to tell you——- the spokeshave was singing all afternoon!
Was hoping to get a phoggie or two, but there’s nothing to show just yet——— maybe tomorrow—- if I have a good day !
Saw that PHILLIP MORRIS is proposing to construct a PROPER model of K111—- so I thought I’d better get a wriggle on and get the old “concept” in there first. Then it’ll make his effort look really good!
Thats where I’ve got the advantage over the clever people——— I don’t even have to think about it—- three paces into the shop and we’re up and running—— little while later—— a facsimile turns up,!
---and I am five weeks behind schedule--:(

Saw the first finished P1 in all its glory yesterday—— looks a totally different animal to last years “Slab”——- with the fully enclosed cockpit, all carbon everything—— .
Still not allowed a picture——— promotor Doing a big pub launch very soon——- been told not to upset the apple cart——— so I’m just keeping a low profile.
Can tell you it looks quite the mean machine with a V8 on its bum.
Mark will be launching his own fifty foot sports boat next week———— eight years after he started the project.
Its got a mind blowing spec——- nothing else like it anywhere in the world——everything on it is his own design.
Dont doubt there’ll be a few of the comics covering the launch, so you should get to see it sometime next week.
Meanwhile, in a shed, in a quiet little village in West Sussex——— ??????
Still haven’t gotten far enough down the road to post a piccie of Keeke 111——- mahogoy deck looks more like a Riva than a Ciggy!
Turned up the four pipes———- all I have to do is make room for them along with a couple of drives on the transom.
Its a belting lump of Mogony——- really dark with great flowering—- after just one coat of varnish it’s looking the BIZ ? More Italian than American ?
But, what the hell—— ITS ONLY A BLOODY CONCEPT—-for crying out loud ! AND ITS FRIDAY ,!
Attachment 420556Attachment 420557
That was the cad drawing—— finished boat looks even better.
Thats the all carbon P1 that all the USA drivers will be using ne

Just a few of the many rides...
Bob————————- Thanks !
Jackie, TRICKS THAT OLD RACERS GET UP TO AFTER RETIREMENT is now up to page 600 !!!!!!
That's far more than HOT SINGLES & HOT MULTIS my other favourites that have been around for much longer.
Well done !
Thank you so much——- it’s more than I deserve.
Willbabees “Hot Singles” is my all time favourite——- found Welch again after forty years!
Plus——- he has more knowledge of Mercury 60/70’s than anyone on the planet.
Even the “Rude” ambassador (Lassie) hasn’t got the depth of knowledge that Bill Welch. Has.

See what hat happens when you have a great wife looking after you—- feeding you—- pampering!
Got interrupted before I really got started telling you about a friend of mine, Billy Seebold !
Met him the first time at Havasu 1969———— ihe had a big old black caddy.
He likes vanilla flavoured coffee creamer———- and has to Have Cheerios for breakfast or he’s Cranky all day.
Scared sh-tless Of Rocky Mountain railways—— But does tend to drive the snot out of a tunnel boat.
Some of you might have even heard of a couple of other Seebold’s——— Mike and Timmy!
But the boss lady of the whole Seebold set up is Lynne——— Bill can do exactly what he wants——— providing that’s ok with Lynne.
Im meeting him up at Tavares this coming November——— legend in his own lifetime and one of the nicest guys you will ever meet (in this world or the next) !
So, if your in Tavares for the OFF meeting————- pop in and say hi.
Had a good four hours in the shop on Saturday———— another coat of varnish on K111—- pipes fitted——- dug out the cockpit——— set up the screen——- front rail and some progress on the drives.
Made the mount, out of a left over lump of mahogany——— another couple of coats and we’re cooking with gas !
Last picture I saw of her——— she was sitting on a very nice triple axle—— might take a punt at doing one——— depends what I feel like on the night.
Weathers changed, wet, wild and windy——-with more to come.
Been thinking about getting myself a milling machine——— never used one, always thought they were just a horizontal drill that put a face on a flat piece. Mark tells me it’s much more—— might have to look into it.
Four weeks Tomorrow and I leave for Florida——- Mark launches his boat—-Maybe Richie Powers and Bill Welch —- Gene Langham—-will be able to come and join in the fun at the OFF meeting!
Will take a piccie if there’s good progress. I’ll get back to you later in the day!
Will answer your last question Pilgrim——- after I talked to Craig—— he drives a P1 better than anyone else I’ve seen !
Edgar Rose has joined Lasse's facebook, and a few other OMC' ers that are a few years older than Lasse so lots of knowledge there.
Good for them Pilgrim——- memories are about all that’s left of OMC——- I’m not putting the boot in here, I always loved competing with them——— some of the best times of my life were in the day’s of the “FACTORY WARS” .
But when it comes to “OUTBOARD HISTORY with old knowledgeable people——— go to the off meeting at Tavares and talk to the likes of BAKOS -SIROIS — ODELLE LEWIS—GENE LANGHAM—- MIKE BUTLER—-BROWNIE—— RICH LUHRS——ROGER HINSDALE and a few dozen others———- now THATS a wealth of knowledge!!!!
Been one of those “Bear eats you” sort of day ——- started off with the four vents behind the driver——- did four sets, but none of them came out the way I wanted, so I binned the lot and walked away from K111.
started something new, but I don’t know what. After a couple of hours, I went back to K111—— looked at the gloss varnish and decided it was crap. Stripped it clean back to the wood——- that was a waste of a lot of hours.
Still, as my sainted mother used to say——- if a jobs worth doing ——— ????
Close of play———- still nothing to show!
A while since I had a “Better than expected” day Bob——— seems, the older I get, the dafter I get !
Find I’m doing things twice over, maybe I’m getting more pernickety——— or just less competent.
Did it again with the upholstery in the cockpit——- cream leather and dirty fingers simply do not go together.
Put a bolster all the way round “the office”—— lined the lot in leather———- result was a SHOULDA WASHED YOUR HANDS.
First job today, is to get the hull back to bare wood———- rubber gloves and clean hands——- trouble is——— Madam does not like me using the kitchen sink to get the crud off my hands——— but I’m not allowed to use the bathrooms with my work shoes on——— catch 22 really——-
Taking her to the hospital today for a scan——- then the dentist——— then the surgery.
Didnt want to know at the swop shop——- past the sell by date——- too many infirmities——- guess I’m stuck with her for some time yet !
