Incredible 1973 All-Original Hydrostream Vector ▼

This all-original 1973 Hydrostream Vector is owned by Tim Dykstra's family, and has owned it since 1978. The boat appears to be entirely original, including the 150HP Mercury. We've seen hundreds - maybe thousands - of Hydrostreams here, but to find one this old and in this condition is fantastically rare. And, if anybody wants it, it's for sale.

Below is the full text of the ad as Tim has it listed. His contact information is below if anybody is interested. But whether or not you might want to buy this boat, I thought you would all enjoy looking at it. I wouldn't expect a Hydrostream like this to come along again anytime soon - if at all.

LA LINEA, SPAIN (May 29, 2018) -- Mercury Marine announced today that the new 4.6-liter V-8 outboard engines it unveiled earlier this month will propel a man's quest to retrace his late grandfather's path to the world record in marathon water-skiing.

Dual Mercury Marine 300hp V-8 Verado outboards will power the Axopar 37 Sun-Top boat that will tow 36-year-old Australian water-skier, Alex Luther, as he attempts to beat the world record his grandfather, Harry Luther, set in 1970. Harry Luther's record still stands today — 5,010 kilometers (3,113 miles) covered in 10 days, 5 hours, and 36 minutes. Company Invests Close to $10 Million In New Noise, Vibration, Harshness Facility ▼

FOND DU LAC, Wisc. (April 5, 2018) – Mercury Marine has officially broken ground on a new expansion at its global headquarters in Fond du Lac. The two-story NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) facility’s first chamber, and the office space is scheduled to be completed by October 2018 while the second chamber is targeted to be completed by the end of the year. The $10 million investment will add close to 20,000 additional square feet to the more than 2.5 million square-foot campus. With this latest expansion, Mercury has now invested more than $800 million since 2009 in expansion and R&D with most of the work again being outsourced to Wisconsin-based companies. Wednesday's event was attended by members of the Mercury team, community leaders and many of the partners who are working on the project.

Impressive On-Water Displays Highlight Miami Boat Show▼

I will admit, the previous years at the Miami International Boat Show were not as impressive as what I saw ten years ago. The industry had been affected by the downturn in the economy, and it certainly showed. That's not to say that the products introduced during the past few years were anything less than impressive, but it was the overall energy of the show that had been toned down. The attendance seemed to lighten up, and the on-water display of boats and engines seemed to reflect that. There were incredible boats as always, but just not as many. Well, this year it was different.

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (March 13, 2018) – Mercury Marine is saddened by the death of Charles “Charlie” Strang who served as Carl Kiekhaefer’s top engineer for 13 years at Mercury Marine. After leaving Mercury, he served as Director of Outboard Marine Engineering (OMC) and later CEO and Chairman of the Board. Strang, 96, was also known as the creator of the sterndrive engine, sketching the first sterndrive in 1948 while attending MIT. Strang’s mother, Ann, is responsible for the famous Mercury Phantom Black engine color.
