Umpba race at three lakes
I had mentioned that we will be discussing a sunday race after the three lakes radar run. I understand that most will not be at the meeting so I'll ask here.
How many guys are interested in a sunday race?
I have heard both good and bad so I'd like to start a discussion and see how many would be interested in both racing as well as helping put it on.Chet Olson

Man I would love this. I'd do it for sure, I'm 7 hours from 3 lakes and I don't think I would need to take an extra day off work to race on Sunday. Might need the extra large cup of coffee monday morning but who hasn't done that before?

We are going to try and get race started early so those who have to drive home can participate.

We were thinking about trying to get started by 10:00 am. Registration will open on Fri at Bonnie's and go through out the day on Sat. We will post up times as its gets closer but will have to be registered by Sat.. As always looking for volunteers to help with things such as start & finish boat as well as putting boats in and out. Still working on details about how we will launch boats. The Shoot Out crew is going above and beyond to helps us pull the 1st year off. Looking for a good turn out to help make this one an annual event.

What’s the drive time from Three Lakes to Sault Saint Marie?
What classes would you be running?

5 1/2 hrs according to google maps. Our classes are set up by MPH brackets and it will be 1000' course unless you run over 105mph than it's 800'. No weight no rules, no motor rules, outboards, inboards, jets, v-drives all run together. We only inspect for safety equipment, helmet jackets, ballistic shorts or equivalent where required and inspect boat as well. We look at steering, motor bolts, battery must be secure as well as anything in boat must be secure, kill switch with lanyard for ignition as well as electric fuel pump. Mostly all common sense stuff to keep everyone safe, The speed is monitored by club GPS's that either the race officials or other racers can request to be put in boats in question. This year we are using a radar gun as well to monitor things. There is a lot of self policing and hope that integrity means more that a "W". It is not a perfect system but has work well for many years. We encourage anyone that wants to win bad enough to cheat to call in advance and we will just send them a trophy lol. It's basically grassroots racing and meant to be a fun day of balls to the wall hammer down WOT racing. It's the most affordable racing I have ever done $40 race fee and 1 time a year $25 club membership fee. I really hope you come check out and bring some other boats with. Our classes start at 65mph and go up by 10mph increments. We have a class for everyone from inlines to V4 all the up to a few that can run 115 plus. If you have more question you can pm me or check UMPBA on facebook it think, I don't have facebook lol. You can also contact Samari (Chet Olson) for more info.
