    Spark Plug Wire Replacement

Need to replace at least one of my spark plug wires, but when I pull on it near the coil firmly, it does not agree with me and doesn't budge. I don't want to mess anything up. It there some trick to getting them out?

This happens on both my 1988 Mercury 150 XR4 and a newer 1989 80hp motor that I inherited.

Also, when re-installing is there some grease that should be applied?

I guess mine are really coils rather than CDM assemblies, and I didn't really see anything threaded in there, at least that I could tell, but twisting it seemed to do the job. Thanks Chaz.

Also, I put some dielectric grease around the inside of the boots.

The engine fired up and ran great (out of water for now) with all three cylinders firing fine. This engine had not been started in about 15 years. So I'm happy about this.

If you haven't already, install a new water pump and rebuild your carbs! Lean from a clogged jet will melt a piston. Ask me how I know.

Reviving this thread rather than startin a new one...
Who makes spark plug wires for coil engines? I wanna know all the mfrs right now and yes I know I can make my own.

    Bobs machine (black wires)
    Sierra (blue with black boot)
    WSM (blue with black boot)
    Magencor (red with black boot)

Does NGK make them, if so does anyone know the p/n? Anybody make plug wires that are ALL blue or ALL red ? Boot, wire and all?

I just bought a nice set from Jay Smith for $40 plus shipping. I think they were Magnecor. Black with grey silicone boots. Very nice quality.

Jegs ... and buy extra ends. You'll have enough wire to build 5 or 6 SETS ..

Anyone know how to order the coil boot? Never understood how they measure those. I know that you'd have to get the one side to fit 7 or 8 mm wire, but how do they dimension the coil side?
