Painting Cowl?

Hello. Has anyone ever tried to paint there Mercury Alien Cowling. If so, i was wondering how it turned out/held up and what materials and paint you used. I figured it would be a lot cheaper to paint mine then to buy a new one.

Held up great .. 2 years now, but have to re do because my latch came open in 2foot + chop at 100 sanded and did all body work to 400 grit . Spraid 3m plastic prep on it . Used primer/ sealer then ppg black /cheep ass clear .

The base plastic can be sanded and polished as easily as any finish. Why paint??

It is scuffed up and has a few screw holes from old bun gee's. Just trying to make it look like new.

Hope to have it running Sunday. Dad is hanging in there. Dont want to steal your thread. I thought he was selling them with the skirt for $1000 which is a great deal. We bought two from him and they were works of art and very light.

Pull the decals off and I can polish it out like new..... Just put stainless screws in the hole, it will look 90% better if you want

What kind of polish do you use mike? Are you going to the romp?

Wet-sand any scuffed areas with 2000 grit, then Swirl Remover on a slow rotary foam buffing wheel, and repeat with a final stage polish like Machine Glaze. A coat of wax and she's done.

Sand any scratched area up to 1000, use gel coat compound and a wool pad to cut the sanding marks and any other abrasions out, then step the compound down to something finer and finish with a foam pad and glaze... 2000 grit is a waiste of time IMHO
