Haulover Inlet , FL

...the only time haulover is halfway normal, is at slacktide...for maybe 20-30 minutes, twice a day... rest of the time, whether the tides go'n out, or com'n in, its crazy. that inlet, and boynton inlet, were made too narrow for the volume of h2o that needs to pass through them.

I grew up on rivers and lakes, I have no urge to go into the Ocean, that's why I'm on the gulf of Mexico, it's more like a lake.

Just watching those boats nosedive I would think a little up trim would help, I've only had one experience with a large amount of water coming over my deck it was a 18 ft

Viking in 1978 and it bent the windshield back on my new boat, that day my girl friend went with me to the ramp helped me back in then said I'm staying here because she

was scared, so I went by myself and came upon a lake freighter that was hundreds of feet long, normally I would have a little fun with the high wake but this

time I was thinking about my girl telling me to slow down so I slowed down, lucky I did not sink it...

I doubt trim will do a whole lot when the waves are "stacked" like that. They look like they stand straight up and are extremely tight......a lose, lose situation......for navigating

no that inlet is still very bad with any type of ocean swell and an outgoing tide. Been there done that too many times. Gained religion many times there as well

yep saw this one again NO PFDS on anyone shes lucky the jet skier saw her see how fast the current was pullin her out she held on to her phone though LOL PFDS guys PFDS

...had an ahole cigarette owner/operator many, many, years ago that went out the inlet, came down hard enough to "compound" fracture one of the girls on board leg, her laying on the back seat screaming, while he kept powering ahead through it... going fast through that stuff, the boat drops out from underneath your feet quite a ways down, and then comes back up real fast all that distance, while your body is going back down. wham! over and over again... oh, the stories.

...in a triple merc hi-perf. outboard race boat with full height three-man race bolsters back in the eighties, seatrialing it going out port everglades inlet. all three of us wearing the usual OP shorts of the era. we get out into the beautiful blue gulfstream open ocean & come down to an idle after screaming through the inlet. we all look at each other & burst out laughing, as all three of our shorts were on the ground, with us standing there in our underwear. ya had to be there.

Depends on the time at Haulover--I have done it in my 14' Hydrostream Vandal on a good day. Learned something one day while working doing an inspection on a high floor of the condo right on the inlet. The experienced guys, especially those two old simple powder blue sportfishermen that I imagine must be charter boats, turn either north or south as soon as they clear the jetties, rather than continuing to beat to death in the standing rollers. Not all, but most of the excitement comes from people who have no business operating a boat. The girl with the cellphone--sitting on the foredeck, operator should never have allowed that. As someone noted, should not have anyone in the bow seats of a bowrider, or center console for that matter, going through when it is bad. But makes for great wasted time watching the videos, and a big boost to the egos for those of us who would not do it so stupidly.

Keen observation....Charter guys have to get it right every time or they no workee....Broke/flooded boats and hurt passengers are bad for business.

I did notice in the videos that there were the ones that tucked tail and turned either left or right to avoid to waters rolling outta there at whatever mph they are moving. Is 10 mph a safe estimate of the full outgoing tide? I was watching da bubbles go by(in the videos)........always works for me.
