Me too, don’t run a regulator on my 16 amp on fishin boat. I had more problems with the new style regulators goin out, so for reliability I just installed the rectifier with no regulator, no mo issues and no overcharging problems.

there were red and black 40 amp flex plate flywheels ive had plenty of both colors no difference in them weight wise, they weigh 11.5 pounds and the cast wheel weight almost 13 pounds so like said above they are not that much lighter but im running one on my pmax , James cut this one up pretty good its has more then the stock pm in every range me being a motor builder for a while now( and almost ready to quit) i had lots of motors on my Bullet, 29 i think in the 24 years ive had it since new from a 300x down all the way to a 200 efi and every size in between it was fun at the time but im getting old 73 now only did 6 motors this year bout a third of what i did a few years ago

Red flywheels with bigger magnets like the black cast iron were in 80's 40amp system if i remember correctly.
Like mentioned above they were not much lighter and only small advantage was the flex plate. What i also found a down side was the cooling, not enough holes for venting to properly cool with higher rpms.
Also as mentioned j dunn did make some but had issues not sure he is still making them.
Brendan powers was making some real nice ones, not sure he got them completed, he was close and testing. Have not spoken to him lately.
These 2 below i swapped out i while ago.

Need swap complete system, stator trigger, confirm ur boxes r gud for 16, and rectifier, some people keep 1 of the regulator instead of rectifier I believe, I use complete 2.4 16 amp system with 260 liter flywheel and works great, easiest way to go unless need charge for lots electronics

LOL yes you have! Unfortunately one flywheel did not play well, lost a magnet since it was cleaned too well with lacquer thinner....

I personally have no problem running those red 40amp flywheels even though the weight savings is not huge every little bit helps that upper bearing and crank.

I have found duplicating the 245/260 16amp setup as was design has worked very well for me.

I found on my promax wit the 16amp, on short runs and not running a lot it was fine.
But with the vst and laser ecu etc it draws too much for the charging on long all day runs. This was with a group 24 cranking battery, maybe with a bigger bat like a group 27 or even a29/31 you’d have better luck

I got tired of jacking with it and have permanently put the 40 amp stuff back on full time.

To much hassle to swap swap it out to run and fish all day, vs having it on for play days.

Turning a 40amp over 8k a lot will fry regulators and stators too also FYI, don’t know how high you are turning. Yours.

I bought a red to swap out my stock black and it would not clear the stator. Do you have to buy the older stator also?

There is a red 16 amp and a red 40 amp. If you have the red 16 amp it will not fit the 40 amp system...
