    Mariner 2.4L 200 not revving over 3000-3500rpm

    Hello Scream and Fly Team,

I need some help on this issue. My mariner 200 won't rev over 3000-3500rpm. I've done the basic troubleshooting that I can think of. Any help would be appreciated.

    - 1990 mariner 2.4L 200 carb motor
    - fresh powerhead
    - wh22 carbs, rebuilt when powerhead was rebuilt
    - Link and sync has been checked and verified twice
    - timing at idle is roughly 6 degs
    - max advance is roughly 24 degs
    - removed idle stabilizer module when rebuilt
    - new switch boxes when rebuilt
    - new trigger assembly before last trip (my fault on this one, wiring rubbed on the flywheel)
    - trigger output voltages are 4.5-5 vdc on all wires
    - stator output voltages: red wires are 150vdc and blue wires are 350vdc (stator voltages high? what would cause this?)
    - stator resistance measurements: red wires 109 ohms, blue wires 4950 ohms, yellow wires 0.3ohms
    - idle is set at 800rpm, shifts well
    - revs hard on garden hose, but at lake feels weak to me (coil issue?)
    - battery meter when running is 14-15vdc, I believe the rectifier to be ok. Is there a test I can do with the rectifier?

    Thanks,
    Justin

Over the years I have had many stators test good but not be good. If your motor is going to approx. the same rpms then failing, classic stator issue. Good luck.

Do you still have the idle stabilizer module? Stators typically hit a wall at 2000-2200 when it switches over to the high speed side. 3000-3500 is a little high for me to think stator...not to say it can't happen.

He said he removed module. Stator would be my guess. I would be careful with 24 degs at wot unless you indexed flywheel
