I read the piece on this boat on the Wavetowave site again. I like the site.

No surprise to me that the 26 Trophy worked well. My 26 Trophy runs 87 and handles well. With more height it might go faster. A Steve Smith worked 28 Trophy was great at everything when I had a 225PM

Having said all that I am really liking my drag 4. Not enough pitch for top speed but great handling and acceleration. And the SS2000 is too small for top speed on my lake most days - waves and wakes

Beautiful boat! Nice website (I have visited before)!
How would a 175 V6 or 200 V8 work on the Grand Sport?

My favorite all-round prop on my SS-2000 was a Mazco RE3.

I think the 175 ProXS V6 is interesting, but it's definitely heavy still, but it might be worth trying. I'm hoping I can get some solid mounts on the 150. Like I've said before, if the 150 ProXS had mounts, and better gears, it would be pretty solid on the GS.

Has anyone tried the 175 Pro XS Optimax with a 200XS brain? If it would work it should
increase rpm to a usable level, and its built on the same 2.5 platform as the XS.

Bringing this thread back, but I ran my 30" ProMax last night, and had good conditions. Got 80 MPH just shy of 5800 RPM with the stock Merc 150 four stroke. The Proxs version with the right gears would be in the low 80s no problem.

The Yamaha 175 SHO 4 cyl has 1.86 gears, and would be a mid 80s boat easily. Plus, I believe you could put the gearcase from the V6 SHO, 1.75 on it as a bolt on. That would be in the high 80s for sure.

How did the boat accelerate with the 30?
What was the best all round prop?

It's not bad.You definitely notice the difference from the 28. Once it gets over 4000 rpm, it gets better. The 28 is much better all around and performs when the boat is loaded up. If the rev limiter was higher the 28 would be perfect.

The 26" trophy was punchy, and really made the boat come alive. But it's not enough pitch.

The 150 isn't a powerhouse obviously, but it has reasonable torque, and above 4k it's decent.

Here is a detailed article and a short video. The video is hard when solo, I really need one of those mount things.

Another great article. I was amazed you could get that kinda performance.

I really like the simple black and white in this boat. I don’t think I’ve ever seen another one like it. Seems like it’s been done in every other model especially the XB2002 and SS2000.

Ya I think there may have been only one other one. This one has white seats and I had Allison not put on the pinstripe decal that usually goes on the side deck. Thought it would look a little cleaner without it.

Wonder what you could do with an XB2003 and modest power.

*btw, just noticed they don't make them any longer*

Yes, Black and White GrandSports really make for a clean look.

If you want to go to the next step further to maximize efficiency you might want to try to try 2 more things. Turn your seat base sideways and then you can sit a little more to the center and can loose half your counter weight based on your body weight. It also works great with a passenger because you can also slide it more to the side to counter the passengers weight and maybe move one shot bag on your side also based on the passengers weight if needed. The rounded bullet works good for boats in the Allison speed range. Not effective at super high speeds like 135 mph PLUS they start to need a more pointed bullet like what all the super fast Tunnels have in the 160 to 200+ mph range have. I see your case is painted. So if you wet sand cross directionaly starting just behind the bullet down the case about half way back and feather it to 3/4 way back with 600 you will have the right amount of adhesion at the speeds your running for maybe another .5 to 1 mph. The water after rebounding of the blunt bullet will stick to a smooth surface more than one thats lightly sanded. You want the bullet to defect but re-adhere just before the barrel so you have bite at the prop with a denser flow. Alot of drag racers use that trick also its been proven with painted cases in the 1/4 mile. Bet the seat base trick gets you another 1 mph also. You will start to have to be more careful pushing this setup. Its like your running 108 with a 260 your on the edge of the motor and hulls performance. One more bump or a raise up on the motor to try and get the same speed or just a little more than the last time might bite ya and even though your at 80 not 108 she will still turn ya around in a hurry haha What setback you running with that motor 8 or 6? A 200 opti ROS would be a sick motor on there also. So would a 15inch 300xs with carbon cowl and no limiter , ratcheting case and the gas tank moved 2 inches forward.
