    Never knew that one.

We're down in the Keys and yesterday I saw a 27' Magnum sedan converted to twin O/B go by on a trailer.
Im a huge fan and one may be a future project but never saw one in person.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I've got to believe that the Challenger 21 was the most copied hull ever. Hell, it spawned the Shadow, Superboat, etc. Then if you look at the slightly tweaked versions of the hull like the Progression 22, you can really get silly. And those original Challengers still ride like almost nothing else anywhere near their size.

Funny too that every time I looked at a 28/30/31 Sonic, I saw my 24'.

All in all though, probably the best, all around performance cuddy ever built.
I was and am critical of its execution but for a 24' boat......., maybe best ever.

Always wanted to splash one w/my cuddy improvements and currrnt construction.

Had the pleasure of meeting Art Carlson's son John, in person, at last year's MN meet. He and his son Steven are now building a 24' version of Art's 'flying wedge' entrapment hull. Brought one all the way from CA for us to try. It was purty cool.

Actually you are a little part right.....Schuster borrowed a Glastron and Splashed the hull and made the SS Deck (Windshield) Not sure if Sidewinder Splashed the Schuster hull or did the same a borrowed a Glastron for the weekend......Sidewinder did theirs with a Lo Pro Deck then splashed the Schuster SS Torino Deck so as fair play Schuster Splashed the Sidewider Lo Pro deck....Then the law suits where flying and no one was winning anything so it turned into a free for all and now there are Splashes of Splashed boats that no one would even think about today.

The history used to be all over on the Sidewinder Forum and I think Old Rigger is still around who worked for one or the other or maybe even both......Been awhile.

About the only difference between the two boats are the seat set ups.....Sidewinder had A Frame Fiberglass Back to Back and Schuster used a Semi Barrel setup that are back to back.

    Schuster seat setup.

    I remember the Schuster.

Being an Ohio boy, I watched both Checkmate and Baja, both built in Bucyrus Ohio.
If you look at first era of Bajas, they are actually previous era of Checkmates, who sold their outdated molds to Baja.

For a short period there was another Ohio company named Scorpion that built splashes of first era of 16' Checkmates.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

Legend has it Schuster and Co borrowed a new Glastron with the "Aqua Lift" hull. (The same kinda hull that was kicking everyones ass at Long Beach.) And made a splash of it. The rest is copyright fraud history

We prefer to refer to the Ohio boats as 'kissin cousins'. Not sure "outdated" is entirely fair ...
