Who has built a wood boat? Post pics

Have you built a wood boat, Glen L or similar. Post pics of the project. Tell us about the experience. I think it's a great way for some to get in the game. Sure can make a good project.

Did an article about it but I'd love to see your projects.

    I’ve done several.

    Very rewarding.

This crackerbox was done with all hand tools. He flipped it crossing a wake one time. The crackers aren't the greatest design.

I do like some of the vintage outboard Glen L's. I think this is a Stiletto.

When I was 16 I built a Glen-L Tuffy. Before that my Dad and I built a MiniMax for my brother, and a 4' by 8' "barge" for me to run around with a 5 horse. In college I built a MiniMax with my future brother-in-law, then a 13' OPC tunnel hull in a bedroom of a farmhouse I lived in. Nobody thought I could get it out--I did Little later in life built a MiniMax with and for my son. Photos will be hard to find--maybe later.

Awesome. What kept you going back to the mini max? Must have been a good design?

Tiny Titan, Minimax, Minimost, Ben Hur, a couple of Hedlund hydros, several Willcraft hydros and a tunnel boat and several Butts Aerowing hydros.

And a few custom designed dinghies.

The Minimaxs were the cheapest, easiest to build, ran the best on minimal power…, if anyone built ONE race boat…, it was an 8’ Minimax.

    The last one.

A 10’ Glen-L TNT that I notched the transom on so it’d fit on the davits on the back of our cabin cruiser.

14' 10" (design called Rascal) built over about 4 years, mahogany and maple. There is a video and a pretty good discussion regarding her construction on page 2 of

Great simple little very fast boat with 5 or 10 horse for young kid. My son, grandson and I will build one for my grandson in a few years. We live in Plantation, many drainage canals around our neighborhood, connecting to lakes. My son, probably 10, would tow the minimax with a 9.5 on a 2x4 and lawnmower wheel trailer behind our riding mower to a nearby street end, launch it and terrorize the neighbors.

The minimax I built in college, my brother in law lost interest in. I took it down to the lake in town once the ice melted (Winona, Minnesota), probably about 40 degrees out, and ran it with a borrowed old Mercury 7.5. I am not a small guy, motor had a slide throttle on the front of the engine. Cranked up the throttle, leaned way forward to get it to plane off, was a ton of fun with no skeg until I got so cold I wanted to stop. Problem was how to maneuver my body back to the stern to reach that throttle while on plane. Survived that, just one more boat story of many.
