Supercharged Mercury V8's on the horizon??
Having a new cat built over the next few months. Rather than rigging it with 400r's as I originally planned I'm tempted to sit and wait a bit. Is there any gossip or rumors floating around of higher hp engines based on the new 4.6L V8's? I'd wait a year if indeed something bigger is on the horizon rather than buying the current 2.6L 400R's.
Anybody heard anything related to this?
Thanks,
David

There are tons of rumors, but that’s all they are. Maybe someone else has more details but I’m sorry to say I doubt your gonna get any factual information.

With a four stroke its pretty easy to boost it. Superchargers require more outfitting with bracketry and whatnot but turbo charging would be pretty simple. Controlling it is the challenge and if Merc has their A game on they already have 3bar map potential and tuning suites for the racer crowd and their own future growth plans. If not Holley controller or if your more of a self doer then megasquirt would work too.
Its really all about what fuel you can handle running. Even in stock NA trim at 87 octane and that mild idle? Add cam/s and compression and theres a lot to gain. Im sure the future is filled with heavy modded 4 strokesHydrostream dreamin

I don't think supercharging is on the horizon for this motor unfortunately. Mercury wants to keep everything in house, and they aren't in the supercharger business. There is rumors of a V10. I am not really sure what Mercury plans to do with the 350 and 400 Verado replacements. But you have to assume it is coming. The I6 Verados do not meet current emissions standards. I do hope they can make it to 350 NA on this V8 block

I wonder with how light they were able to get the powerhead if it has enough structural integrity to handle boost or even more power.

NA motors won't be able to stay EPA compliant for long. There going to have to add some sort of forced induction. I think a turbo setup would be lighter than supercharged.

Cats are coming! Then the fusion to direct injection, optimax 4strokes. Weights will go up more and more as they add emissions crap to the package. I'll bet $50 that if you pull the power head on one of these and look down in the mid you'll see right where the cat will mount.

IMO mercury will not make the same mistake twice putting supercharger on this v8 like the did the verado. It's opens the door for anyone to flash ecm for more power something mercury has no control over. A verado 200hp flash to 325hp a 400r flash to 455hp. Mercury will control the hp gains in this v8 with good old proven technology bore, stroke ,cams, intake design. So no v10 also why because its cheaper to add higher compression pistons to get 50hp on 90 octane
