I heard that the Super Stock boats had to idle for a long time while waiting for the flipped cat to be towed off the race area

not surprised that he ran out of fuel.

what a race this past weekend, not a normal pacing race, I must say

I thought Opti's sniff fuel at idle

smooth, perfect for Todd's little boat.

A couple dumb questions. Did they race Sunday? I was planning to go but it was raining steadily for most of the day a little further down the coast where I was so we didn't make the trip. Are all the twin OB cat boats running 300XS's? Is that per the class rules? Why no 300R V-8's. Not trying to stir the pot, just curious. Thanks.

yes sir , they raced Friday and Sunday

the motors are 300XS powerheads and custom midsections

those are per class rules. Would be great to see 300R V8 become the standard power and locked-down ECU's

There is usually a switch that say's "On" and "Off" generally located on or near the dash. If one's happens to think they are low on fuel ... while waiting , the switch can be turned to the off position in an effort to save a little fuel ... Just thinkin out loud ..

From what I understand Shaun turned to the outside of the course instead of the inside when out of fuel, Wicked had to go way around him to clear giving the 3rd place boat a clean run on the inside, wicked had speed advantage but got crushed in next corner.
Got more to say but not on a public forum

Hats off to Todd and Mike (both fellow board members) for an incredible 9 lap run that held a VERY solid 2nd place even after the restart. It was also great to see Ryan and Damon (both fellow board members) run an incredible race as well. Todd just showed the world that his "home built" version of an extended LCB has the ability to run with best and he has several changes that are going to be implemented on his next boat.

As for the fuel and milling time when LPC had there mishap, there was a bunch of current, a spectator fleet, and open traffic in the down times that needed to be avoided so everyone had the same issue if they were thin on fuel "shutting down was not an option in the milling area".

Todd's hit was caused when Shaun's motor bobbled, he and Eric went to the outside forcing Mike and Todd to the outside. Then they in effect squared the corner slightly after being forced to slow down and going around Shaun while heading to the second pin. Phase 5 came in just as hot as Todd and Shaun did into that corner and didn't expect to be limited on room or to run up on a boat going much slower. "It was a racing deal and there is plenty of footage that clearly shows the process of events".

Below is a screen shot of the restart --very cool to see Todd and Mike hanging it out to get the jump...

    He has Merc stock $

those old 2 strokes are doing just fine,

I THINK Merc should bite ... whatever and sell these imaginary 15inch V-8 at a serious discount to these guys

How much better advertising can they get?

To make a whole class buy all new motors to make WHO happy

    MERCURY

The showcase class for sure, stock is a beautiful thing

This class is like the rich mans NASCAR but like the old days when they used real cars not what it is today...

Like $30,000 for a complete 15" motor, $ 60,000. is out of the question

    Advertising expense

The objective of this class is and always has been so that a customer can see a production motor that they are able to purchase from their local being utilized. You couldn't buy a new 2.4 so the class went to a 2.5 260, then they were no longer available so they went to the 280, then they were no longer available so the class changed to the 300XS now you can't buy a 300XS so they class will switch to the 300R. When you can't buy a new 300R, guess what the class will do-this is evolution and if you don't evolve, then you race vintage or a class that allows use of the power in question.

It has nothing to do with Mercury or Four stroke but what other performance option in the 300 hp category to they have? There were teams that tried running yamaha, suzuki, and omc in the past. What would really be cool is to see another manufacture build something competitive and support teams to use their product but that hasn't happened in many years and mercury doesn't need any help with sales and marketing at this point in the game.

That is a beautiful summary Joe. Thanks

Amazing after all this time that Mercury is in the position they are in right now. Brunswick Boat group & Johnny M power packages, The Center Console partnerships. Who would have thought 40-50 years ago clean 300-450 HP Mercury made production 4 stroke outboard blocks with great steering, controls and rigging would be the ****. Easy to live with, Quiet, idle nice and dock well.

Marine publications showing Tri Toons, 30-50 ft multi engine hybrid outboard CC's & Cats. All with outboards. Not a twin IO Cig, Fountain or Baja to be seen.

Excuse me while a get a breath of my 2 stroke with some Klotz bean oil in it.. Whew, now that's better. Damn I do love that smell.

There so big and goofy looking, no sound, no smell, can't say I'm enthusiastic. Could they run on current hulls? If they could it would be a decent comparison to see if they support the hype.
