Binnacle control with 2000 150hp optimax
Just bought this optimax to replace tired black max 150. I have installed motor and attempted to use binnacle control for black max but when putting in gear, there is a long lag b4 rpms increase, then, it goes to 3000 or more. Can't like get 1200 rpm trolling speed. Do i need to go to a later control? Maybe cable cam is different for rate of advance. Or are some of you running this old style with an optimax?g

150 Opti is a 2.5 motor..... all the same linkage to old black max. I think your problem is you need to readjust the cable for non/slop in adjustments....A guy I know did his own and did not put the cable end were it should be.... .Just make the Throttle arm tight against the block in neutral. Adjust with the cable barrel.... not lock nut on arm......Arm chair drunk boat service...... trying to help.....

I'm specifically talking about the rate of travel of the throttle cable being compatible with the tps sensor. Is the 3000 controller more compatible with the opti?

should not be a problem if adjusted right. i would unhook cable from throttle arm on motor. start motor and check idle with stop on arm against block. my memory is weak. but i think 675 to 800 is acceptable. if you have a meter tps volts should be 1 volt at idle. the early optimax tps work opposite newer optis. my motors are 1 volt at idle, up to 5 volts wide open. older optimax idle around 4 volts and go to 1 volt wide open. once you figure that part out. set idle with arm stop against block. then adjust cable by spinning barrel.

Thks davemvegas. Will check voltage and try your procedure. Just didn't want to be chasing my tail with an old controller that wouldn't work anyway
