    FrankenRude IV

Bought this a couple yrs ago while 8’s were still affordable.
(while watching their costs go up)

Have tried several times over the yrs but this is the first time it’s worked out.

Bought it w/no real plans for it, and still don’t really have any.

It came from the buyer of my Checkmate Starliner, who is now a good friend of mine.
The plans for that Starliner was always an 8.

I sold Checkmates when Starliners were new boats and we had one w/an 8 on it w/power steering.
80 mph w/one hand on the wheel!

The new owner of mine, put this 8 on it before selling to me.
So that history/story means a lot to me.

When he ran it, a fuel line came off of one carb and scored that cylinder.
I bought it in that condition/understanding.

When it arrived here, still assembled, less the bad piston, I ran compression on the other 7.
And they were dead nuts, to the lb, exact!
    Thats a very rare thing!

I pushed it aside and it has set, untouched, since then as I pondered what to do w/it?

That compression reading has stuck w/me though.
Yesterday I had some Gary time so decided to play w/the cowling.
Never paid much attention to it as I intended to paint it.

Seller shipped it, as is, w/all badging removed and packed in a separate box.
Opened it yesterday and it’s all pristine!

Have also been planning to go through my piston inventory in search of a stock, replacement piston.
Guess what was also in the box!!!

I haven’t ID the p.head yet (no I’d tag) but I know it’s an early one as it has a direct drive starter which I think was one/first yr only.

I also remember a comment from Racer that I read on here yrs ago.
He said that the early 3.6’s had way better porting than the 4.0’s that replaced them and stock, they were ported to where they’d turn 8300 w/everything right!

For a gear case I’m running a very rare, unobtanium, Second Effort, low water p/u Hi Perf V-6 case.

So yesterday I decided that stage one shall be, stock!
Ill put one piston in, leave others as is, install big bore carbs, jet/tune, remove rev limiter and let er eat!

This will be a long term project as they’re are a couple ahead of it but building an 8 is a bucket list thing for me.

Also yesterday, I decided to see how well the cowling would clean up.

    Check it out!

One of the things I always liked about this style/era of cowling is, if you reverse the louvers and open the inner baffles, you now have cowl induction!
    For free.

Oh yeah, forgot I had this NOS mid that Miami Dave gave me 20 yrs ago!

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

    E-etc front, w/carbs

When you gave me that mid, I promised you I’d only take it if I was going to use it.

I think we’ve moved the damn thing 10 times!

DO it Gary ! I'm in a similar situation with a 1992 4.0 300 - long-term project that is gradually moving up the list. We need a fresh V8 thread .
It will be going on a Checkmate Starflite, the V8-duty transom is nearly done.

A buddy in Ontario has two complete ignition systems for your dual-pack motor - let me know if you'd like to connect with him.

    Matt

    Very cool.

Ill probably buy CDI packs for it.
I think I can still get no-limit packs.

Starflite is a great V-8 candidate.
    Same hull as the Starliner.

I built a Fla friends 2.7 V-6 looper into a 3.0 for his Starflie but he wouldn’t let me set the boat up

Been watching e-bay but only finding intakes and reeds.

Id like to have three front halves.

Two for the 8 and one for the 3.3 I never finished.

Want to do three Solexs on the 3.3
Have found them w/same throat size as E-etc intake.

had some idea about a slide intake for the evinrude
but you could just have the plate design with round throttle plates and do fuel injection!?

    Yep
    Thinking similar.

Made this ram air system for my MG out of PVC.

I used a Mad EFI system on FrankenRude II and it taught me how good a set of well tuned carbs can be
Have been a huge fan of carbs ever since.

Gary , I don't know if I had these intake / intercooler parts on my weld bench when you were down .. or if it was just box's of header parts everywhere ..

But if they were , here's the final assembly getting ready to get stabbed in the car and off to the dyno.

genu-wine Garrett double ceramic ball-bearing AC compressor ..

Love your project .. keep us up to date .. please

Used my $100 harbor freight sand blaster to strip this case that I’ve had forever.

Funny, when I first got it from e-bay, I sanded off the paint where a nose cone seam would be.
    Just to make sure.
