Set up Throttle Position Sensor on promax

Can anyone comment on setting the TPS on a promax. Manual says I need a special plug adapter to use a multi-meter to measure voltage. .24-.26 stock setting. Is there a way to do it without the adapter? Mine is turned way to the right (clockwise from center). Not near the middle of the adjustment range. Motor is burning lots of fuel and looks rich on plugs. I've had my ECU checked out and injectors flowed. Thanks for any advice.

I personally do not know this information but I'm positive others can comment on that. If need be, I can see if I can find info on that.

Typically you can back pin, or unplug and set it by ohms.

Ohm spec should be in the book.

Make sure the signals 5v just as a pre test. Bad power can throw them off as well since it is simple voltage resistance system

I made three pins so I could plug it in with exposed metal. Works great.

I don't see any mention of ohms in this area of the manual?

That's because it is more accurate the set using volts, the tool is cheap and makes setting so easy.

The general consensus seems to be using voltage is the most accurate way to set TPS is using voltage but here are some numbers I wrote down from posts and then wrote down the comparisons using voltage read with the mercury test cable and then the resistance readings from the TPS with it not connected to the harness .
Using ohms TPS minimum should be 200 ohms (leanest) and 700 ohms (richest)
so if 200 ohms equates to .200 volts and 700 ohms would be .300volts , 450 ohms should be right in the middle @ .250 volts .

I checked the TPS on my 200 EFI after I first verified it was set at .242volts using test harness .
Fully disconnected the TPS was 410 ohms @Idle and 1230 ohms @ full throttle

    Just jumping on an old
thread here, but how do you adjust it once you get a reading? Mines burning really well but I’d like to fatten it up a bit so I don’t feel bad holding her at wot for long periods

    Thanks

The adjustment is made at idle don't worry about the open throttle reading as long as it is with in the range given in manual.

Well you need 2 things, a service manual and a TPS tool.

i know this is an old post, buttttt. i had to replace my TPS sensor on my 1997 300 promax. i have twins so i was able to check the working sensor to compare to the new sensor. with that being said, my voltage readings are 3.81 at idle and it drops to about 1 volt at WOT. meaning that the sensor is operating backwards. i tried to flip the sensor, re align the sensor. all with the same outcome. it is just the way the throttle opens and the sensors work. the sensors are on the starboard side of the motor. if they were on the port side of the motor, the readings in the service book would be correct. i do 12volt electronics for a living, so metering and diagnosing electronics is second nature to me. has anyone come across this issue before? i heard there is a lot of service bulletins, but i can not seem to find them anywhere. i find it strange, as these are just 5 volt reference potentiometers. turning them clockwise lowers the voltage (raises the resistance) and counter clockwise raises the voltage (decreasing the resistance). any one? ps. i must say the motors run great. im just confused.

Just asking, it's been a while. What happens if you cross the wires on your voltmeter? (change polarity) If both motors are running good theres prolly something wrong with the way you are testing. Seems like I've seen this before but I have a severe case of C.R.S. I did run and tune my own 300 promax's in another lifetime. If you built your own adapter, look at it again. Good luck.
