Probably more then it would cost to take to someone else to fix.
That's what these old two strokes do though - might be hard to tell if it is hydraulic or two stroke oil!

Like I said - it wasn't leaking (externally) until AFTER I tried this STP.

If you are leaving a rainbow trail, you have something leaking that can and should be fixed.

A four stroke might do the trick with fuel injection! (in my dreams) I've never seen one of these old bats not drop a few drops from trimming up and transport to dropping in the lake. Don't know how that could be stopped 100%. A few drops go a long way too. But no...it doesn't rainbow trail...but it does drop some in transition.

I suppose if you are tilting your motor all the way up the float bowl spills. I do not have to do that with mine.
If the WDNR sees it, they will write you an expensive ticket.

So, this is a cluster now. I ordered the kit 64507A1 which is what is supposed to fit a 1979 motor - serial 5504853. I yanked the cylinders and dropped them at the machine shop that is finish welding the ladder I'm building. He calls me and says the kit is wrong - looks nothing like what is in my unit. He has already pulled one apart. Not good. Now I don't know what to do. Marineengines.com shows NEW unpainted cylinders - but they are $325 EACH. I've already got over $150 in the seal kit and rush shipping not to mention any labor. I don't know why my parts which look on the outside EXACTLY like what is supposed to be on it - but something not right inside. Any insight on that?

This may not be the one you need, but it does match your serial number.
When I am looking for parts, I use this website because they have good expanded drawings and then part numbers. So I can visually verify if the part is right, and then I have the part number to order from wherever.

    Hope this helps, good luck.

ETA: Take the part number to ebay:

That's the exact part I already have. The machine shop texted me photos of the guts of my unit and the service kit 64507A1 that is in that link you provided, and what I had bought. There is a night and day difference.

I sent a copy of that photo to Oldmercs.com to see if he can identify it.

I will look when I get to shop but I think I may have a mid you can rob cylinders from.

Sorry, I missed that you had the part I linked to. I had a little more time to look and found this alternative. Apparently there is a 3/4" and 1" rams. Is that the difference? Check it out and if I find other possibilities, I will post here.

Hello Minnow - something you just linked bounced me around (in a good way) and I discovered these:

    https://www.marineengine.com/newpart...um=MER92188A+2

Now...odd thing - these are for a 50 hp unit. I have photos of the parts that came out of mine - and confirmed they are identical LOOKING inside. Mine is the 3/4" shaft.

So, there is a chance me problem is I have the other cylinders, and to make them go again I need these seals. But...it begs the question if perhaps they aren't up to the task of the bigger motor????

Marine engines has access to new cylinders - part number 92194A14 or 92194A20 These cylinders cross check to a 1979 115...BUT they cross check to the seal number I posted above to rebuild them.

I have a 2 trim cylinder mid from a 115. You can have whole thing for $50.

At this point, I am of little to no help. If this does not work out with Rock, the best I could tell you is to start another thread with appropriate title and post a bunch of images. Somebody here will know what you need to hear.

    Good luck!!
