    Foil for talon 18

Anyone run one of mike rays foils on a talon 18 or on a hydrostream viper. Reason for asking is the talon is my main boat right now until i get the core and transom done in the viper.

Imo foils help take off a ton on anything ,, it's out of water on plane and no ex drag while runnin fast , helps crusin speeds also , I dont run a foil but I'm thinkin of tryin one just for slow crusin speeds and staying on plane easier

Careful putting strain on the cav plate with a planer. They can break the lower.

Some guys on here have made some very nice ones out of alum and some out of fiberglass/carbon. The trick it seems is to make it slightly flexible so it will deflect some and not break the very rigid cav plate. Full contact is also good, it spreads the load.

Never felt like I needed one on my Talon, maybe I was not as high as you are. I had homemade ones on my 25 Seebold that mounted under the plate and fastened through the trim tab hole. 1/4" plate about 4" out to either side and 6" past the back of the plate. My goal was to be able to plane one one engine.

I do agree and it all makes sense but as long as I've seen people run em, even on toons and really heavy boats ,if installed correct I've never seen one damage a lower , unless it was stood on tryin climb back in boat.
Thus goes to say ,not that it cant happen.
But again maybe sumone has broke a lower with everything else correct. Seems like all stress b on heavy heavy boats

I have seen more broke cav plates than I wanted to. Broke one of my own. The ridgid cast alum whale tails seem to be the ones that can break stuff the easiest. They have no flex. That's what got mine.....

I ran an ally foil on my viper for a long time. I went to this web site called scream and fly and was told my dick would fall off if I put a foil on my motor but I did it anyway and was happy and my dick didn't fall off so there, true story.

A Allison is not a whale tail, it does not hang off the back,

that's where the problems at is the rear overhang.
