One reason they are getting so hard to find is that they are used almost exclusively for Sport C class racing. My two cylinder 40 came from either WS or MN, can't remember which. I got 15" and 20" mids, and an extra lower with nose cone and low water pickup.

Like Mercury did in the 80’s with there 50 & 60.
Don’t remember for sure but most of the Mercury/Mariner I see on the used market have power trim and BIA bolt pattern clamps which made them heavier. 190+ pounds.
The newer version in the 90’s weighed even more at 220+.

Yes 3 cylinder. Didn’t grasp that you were asking about the 2 cylinder.
From what I can find the older 2 cylinder ones were 128 pounds. Unable to find the displacement.

You can find owner manuals for nissan motors here:
Owner's Manuals | OnlineOutboards.ca
I calculate the 40C (2 cylinder) model to be 30.15 CUIN.

Thank you. Great site tip for online manuals. Most of them now want to charge to view the manual.

As far as I know they still race them. You can see from this page of the rules that the max cu. inch displacement is 35, and the motor must be stock. Thus, the lower weight of these motors is so desirable. Considering this, it's easy to see why they're as scarce as hen's teeth. I'm sure happy I found mine a couple years ago. It was advertised on here by the owner and I bought it and had it shipped to GA.
