Maximum prop height on a V-king

Hull is blueprinted. Pad is mirror flat. I have been running the set up by feel until today. I got me a fancy new laser tool that puts prop center line right on the back of the hull. Great tool. So my seat of the pants prop height is 1 1/8” above the pad. It works well but im looking to get all of it and want to know the max height limits? I have run slightly higher with my srx it didn’t run well at all without another 1/4” height. So what say you all? More opinions the better

What gearcase / setback / power are you running?

My setup ran well at 1-5/8" above the pad with a 260 / 15mid on 6" setback and a stock sportmaster.
It never felt like I was getting too high and the boat maintained its manners.

Yes I should I have mentioned that. I’m running 4” setback with a JC coned big bearing lower. Power is a 2.5 FF with the exhaust dump opened to the large rectangle along with a two piece plate also opened up to the same. Rod slots and some small chamber heads. It’s about 135psi at the moment. I’ve turned a 28 hoss up to 7500 or so. Working with a 30 lightning et at the moment.

Good to hear you ran a half inch higher than I have. Was yours a V or a YT?

I ran mine with up to 1.5'' measured at the point of the LWP when I was chasing top end. This was with a bobs LWP setup and a torque tab full length on the skeg blended in. Almost no torque at all. Had 4'' set back / land and sea hyd. plate. Any higher and the WP gauge would bounce. The difference between 1'' above and 1.5 was very minor. At this height you are running on the bottom of the lower anyway. The prop may like it higher, or it might not. I ran a 14''x 30p thinned cleaver.

Ain't it great to have papa TRUMP back at the helm?

I’m definitely trying to maximize this set up. Here’s a twist I didn’t see coming. The et doesn’t run for crap unless I’m only a half inch above pad. If I jack higher it goes slower. I’ve been trying props like crazy this past couple weeks and I have my big ear chopper working very well too. Lots of torque lift though if I want to get all of it from that prop I need to add more ballast. Not going to bother because my hoss is a better prop but if I have passengers the big chop is best.

The et is a top end runner though there’s no denying that. I’ll see what it’s got when the weather cools and the boat traffic dies down. Hard to find long enough, calm enough stretches to hold it wfo for a minute or so to get it done. I’m getting 10-15 second blasts right now and that’s about it. So lots of 90 but not much more for now
