1992 Caper HyperRestoMod
As some of you may remember, I have been looking for a Chris Craft Caper with or without accoutrements for quite some time. They were mostly given to dealers in the NorthEast and I am in Dallas so even when I found one for ~$4k if I added the delivery fee to that amount it just wasnt worth it for a 20 year old boat.
I have found one with no motor (but does come with rigging) that I believe to have a solid transom, the bottom looks good, and I think even the topside would look pretty decent with a good wet sanding.
I’m going to take it a bit further than that. Wakeboard arch, mounted speakers, sub in the gunwale, repaint the whole boat, completely re-engineer the interior, modernize the dash and add a tiny bit of bling with adjustable light color inside the boat - and MAYBE do thru hull white light - but the lakes around here are murky to the point that I’m not sure thats something that worth doing.
Thing is, my plan is for this boat to end up with either a 90 or a 100 4 sroke honda unless I find a better deal. They say these hulls are fast - which I assume means I might see 55 - perhaps 60 based on what others have said (dont quote me - im just going by scuttlebutt), so there isnt going to be any screaming unless its from my wife, and probably very little flying.
I will have lots of questions, hopefully most of which I can find in searches, but I do like to verify info so I will likely ask the question anyway, backed up with my research.
The question is, is my project acceptable here? I also have a 21 ft galaxy low profile open bow (california looking boat, not your typical galaxy runabout looking boat), with a 200hp merc on it - its not very fast, but I share you guys need for subtle speed and slick looking boats.. And to say this is the best place to talk to folks about restoring boats would be an understatement.
With all of that said - may I share my progress and my questions here?
Thanks!

Cool little boat. One craigslist ad claims "50 mph with 90 hp" for what it's worth.

hadnt seen that one.. thats the color of the one im grabbing but the interior is shot in mine - which is fine as i intended to redesign it anyway…. was kinda hoping (and hearing) a 90/100 would get it over 50 - but even it not, based on what the boat will be used for (cove runner) and light boat to take along to other lakes and possibly the gulf of texas
… its going to be the first time i get my hands dirty with.a lot of aspects of what will need to be done though so im looking forward to it - plus the hull is costing me next to nothing.
thanks..
