I think that boat was built in central Florida by a guy named Bowerman maybe?

Kevin White was the manager at the OMC training center in Atlanta Ga. when I went there the first time in 1982. He showed me a pic of a 49 cu. in. 75 Johnson that he built. It had OMC snowmobile carbs on it! Those carbs had injector pumps on them. Who knows, it could have been the engine on that boat. I think he was involved in some E class racing back then.

SE class was a stock production motor class. The 49in OMC loopers made plenty of power and pretty good torque. Once they got a good lower unit under them the Mercurys were out of contention. 1973 was the last year Mercury won SE at Nationals (finished 1+2). OMC already had the advantage in E production by then.

I always thought it was pretty amazing how the stock lower units on the tunnel hulls would still pump water with no mods to the intakes. Most of the racers would run the propshaft above the bottom of the sponsons.

    Mark,

Click the link for a very interesting story how I got around the water pickup issue for the standard Nitro gear case.

To me it looks like one of the 30 that Seebold built for the Muncey wide world whatever with equal boats & motors for his invitational race. Won by Billy Schumacher with Geoff Briggs second.

Kevin Whites motor would not have been legal for SE

Yes!! You are absolutely correct Bunky Bowerman I am I am quite sure that he built most of Ken Olson’s boats back in the day. I believe the one that I barrel rolled at the Caribbean club testing on day was a Bowerman boat. You had to float them around the corner you couldn’t drive them in hard as I learned the hard way. Again Ken was a gentleman never said aHarsh word just gotten his Cadillac took his boat home with BC and came back for the next race at the club.

When I was at the Race Rock in 1998 / 1999, it was hanging inverted in the entry way roof and not inside? The atmosphere was everything. The food was average.
