    Cool or Sacrilege?

Toying with the idea of a single 450R???

But twin 245s sound so good.... ???

I went through a similar struggle. My Diamond Marine breathed on 2.5/200 sounded so darn good. My 250R is almost silent compared to it. But the old 2.5 just wasn't as reliable anymore and no amount of throwing (very expensive and getting harder to find) parts at it was going to change that. So far, I'm happy I made the leap. Sweet looking boat BTW!

Order one and while you wait a year to get it run the 245’s. You can always sell the 450 for a profit

I swapped from a a pair of 300’s to a single 400r. I lost some acceleration but increased top speed and doubled my fuel economy. I’d never go back. More so than the performance figures alone, the biggest advantage in my experience is the day-to-day usability, lack of attention they need, and turn-key reliability. It reminds me of how a car starts every time and goes years without any real maintenance.

Yea, the fuel thing. As it is, I need to add another 45 gallon tank at least to get the range I want.

The 245s and the wind, I wear ear plugs. Never had to do that on my other boats.

Part of the justification for my making the leap to a for stroke to my wife was the increased fuel economy and decreased emissions. She saw right through that one, but let me get it anyway.

As for the sound, I remember what my son said about me going away from the 2.5. He said, "Dad, I can hear you come out of the hole a mile down the lake. Do you really want to give that up?" No, but rear seat passengers would probably beg to differ.

Do it, you'll be happy you did. It will be a much more user friendly boat for a lot of reasons. Super cool boat either way.

If it ain't got an offshore exhaust I ain't interested. Fuel economy be damned. If back seat riders don't like it they can ride with somebody else. And, that's including my wifey.

Loud and fast just go together for me.

    Pretty boat, FC.

For me, it is the reliability thing. It just comes to a point where, no matter how cool the old Evinrude V8 looked and sounded, I was sick and tired of wondering whether it would start or not. Or quit when I had friends with me 20 miles from the ramp. I don't know about your motors, but the V8 needed 93, hard to get on the water. I don't know when the work on the boat will ever finish, but my quandary will be the big money (and 15 years newer technology) of the 300R or pay today for used what I would have paid new 5 years ago for a 300xs which still needs 91.
    Per Rock:

"Once I bought my first Hydrostream boating changed forever for me."

    Per my hero Instigator:

"I try not to let common sense interfere w/my boat buying decisions."

I like the cool factor of the old 2.5L V6s, with offshore exhaust. Mine have been very reliable, and have never put me down to have to be towed. You can still build a 260 powerhead for $10K+, if you're careful. I just did.

While I can see the importance of the newness and the reliability of the new motors, I'm not ready to abandon the two strokes yet. Too much about them that can't be replaced by a new four stroke. Mine run pump gas, 90, and I add a little ACES for good measure to help offset the higher compression.

I hear ya... just throwing the idea in the air. I had a stator go bad on one motor, but hey, there are two of them... It killed the switch boxes too.... well one died so I replaced both, even put a new bias wire in. I have an entire set of electronics I carry with me and the tools to change them out. You never know!

The motors are kind of close, so it depends on which one you are servicing for the PITA factor.... But I love the OS set up... the wing plates, etc. This is a rare bird.

I love the sound and smell of two strokes but hard to argue with the turn key new warranty reliability you get with going four stroke. I’m stuck with a weight holding problem so no four stroke for me yet. Maybe they will het lighter and that will change

I'm right there with you. Leave like it is until you need to repower. You can buy alot of gas for the price of a new one.Had to make this decision 5 years ago. Was about to order a new one and a bud came through with a pro max powerhead. Its run great, unfortunately I've only put maybe 20 hrs on it .

That is a tuff call for sure, and I would go by the usage per year. If it is a 50-100hr per year boat I would order a 450r and needed equipment and run a season or two and wait for all the stuff to arrive. If its a 10-20hr a year boat rock the sweet sounding 2 smokes!
