No, that's not the infamous Judy's Gin Mill, it's a bar/restaurant in Kaukauna. Look at the beverages on the bar, all you see is Pepsi or Coke ..... that would never happen at Judy's.

Pretty sure Fountain is in the white boat. Seebold and Bentz never ran white factory entries, only Fountain did.

Notice the white boat # 82 (Lee Sutter) does not have the experimental exhaust system.
I remember seeing a picture of Jimbo running an Evinrude with OMC's version of a similar exhaust system.

Americans still have the Parker Enduro with different classes running side by side.

However the Aussie's do the same in heat racing. Which to me is just, if not more, as an exciting race spectacle.

147^th running for the roses was today. The Kentucky Derby is one of the biggest betting events in America. And after watching it today, it reminded me of something I witnessed in the 1970’s.

I believe it was 1974, my first time at the World Championships in Havasu.
And fascinating transactions happen, as far as my youthful sensibilities have never encountered before;
BETTING on boat race drivers. I hope others will post more details of what transpired then at Havasu.

It must have been Friday evening before Saturday’s race. The organizers held an open bidding on race drivers. I do not remember if any of the drivers were bet on solo. But I do remember there were multiple groups of 3 and 4 drivers in collective groups. There were groups like (Seebold, Pruett, and Renato) and (Jimbo, Sanders, Scotti and Woods) etc, these examples are only as references. And if you were a driver not placed in a group to be bid on, then you were in the Field Group to be bid on.

Side note; McCullough’s daughter bid on someone or group, and I remember someone remarked, she was interested in said race driver (I do not remember which driver) for a possible romantic evening.

That pic is from 1972. Not sure about 1974 but there was no Havasu race in 1973. Mercury said they would not attend since OMC said they would bring the rotaries. Never heard about the betting.
