I was there watching 1979 but dont remember Cees "incident". The new Merc V6 T-4 3.4 liter OZ class engine took all my attention.
    Below is some info.

    ron54,

I raced the OE class three times in Bristol with no success.
    1982 was my best/worst year.
Raced my brand new white OE class Burgess for the first time with a factory Evinrude CC engine.
Very rough conditions and I was up front/leading from the first lap to the last one when a fuel leak/carburetors stopped me at the far end..!!
So disappointed wanted so bad to have a Bristol victory but came up short again.
Cant even find a picture of my white OE class Burgess in Bristol 1982

...Cougar 4 engine outboard cat almost 40 years ago. There were others here in South Florida back then. A lot going on down here in the 80's. No shortage of hundred dollar bills here then...

    Way cool story.

Their sled motors were OMCs first to make 3 hp per cu in as you eluded to and in ‘1973!
    Thx for sharing.
