If you were moving to Florida what area(cities) would you avoid?

if you intend to move here and then tell about how they do it differently back where you came from, then stay away from liberty county. if i liked the way they did where you came from, i would have moved there after i visited that place. and if it was so much better, then why leave? lol

A factor that gives more or less options. Do you need to find work after settling in to your new place? Do you want to be in the few mile range of shopping, boat ramp access? Saltwater inter coastal and Ocean, or freshwater lakes and/or canel boater? some like low density with some distance between houses and do not mind a 20 min or longer trip to shopping, restaurants and other necessities they need. Myself i am very happy in my location in se ft pierce. I am 2 miles off US1 to the east. Intercoastal is about 1 mile east of my house. Still have a 7 or 8 mile drive to get to any of the 4 or 5 ramps to get to our boating area. also i can be in the middle of ft pierce that is north in 10 mins. Also i have only 10 mins or so south to get in the middle of Port St Lucie, the used to be small city. Now several times the population as ft pierce. 20 miles to the south is Stuart. i think Stuart is split similar as ft pierce. Has several Condominiums as ft pierce does. Has several older neighborhoods as ft pierce does. Has some new residential areas from mid price homes ( 250k to 400k) with many to pick from. If you are in the 350k to 500k buyer. Skip ft pierce and Shop PSL Gated communities. Or Stuart for that upscale choices. Both Ft pierce and Stuart has the no go Zones, As all towns do. Do not panic about crime numbers in either city. Majority of the crime is be done in the areas most of dont have a reason to be there. I think i should have you cross eyed and dizzy by now. I have given you good information. I have firsthand knowledge of living here. I have lived in area for almost 3 months now.
One important warning. Even if you have strong spanish or more needed cuban speaking skills. There is still no reason to even consider any location south of over priced Jupiter and jupiter farms area. The traffic and population has passed the rat race lifestyle in new york city's, Bronx and queens areas.
Ps. a made a error on my time of living in area. i moved here when i was 8 yrs old in 1971.

Stay outa Polk County. It's pretty weird there and anywhere else inland along the peninsula. The panhandle is considerably different than Orlando and south thereof.

Wow, great post. Many places in Florida are as was described for the Stuart/Ft Pierce area. You may need to do a lot of investigating and questioning of local representatives! Or if you have your sights set on a certain idea, let people know, and they will gladly share their view!
Good luck above! Remember four million one hundred thousand people from Canada wintered in Florida in 2017-18 winter. Migrants from the US, who knows how many.... but maybe worth considering, the snow birds can fill the roads, stores, doctors offices, restaurants, etc....

oouch that hurts, Born and raised in Polk County, we have the Winter Haven and Kissimmee Chain of lakes, we are one hour from either coast, close to Orlando and Tampa yet one of the lowest cost of living in the state, no coastal flooding from Hurricanes, Grady Judd our Sheriff takes no crap from anyone,

Born in Pasco county, raised in Pasco / Pinellas counties. Stationed if in the AF in Fort Walton Beach. Worked for a couple of years in Broward / Dade. If I were to ever consider leaving South Carolina to go back to Florida I think that I would look at Jax / Fernandina or Mexico Beach / Carabelle.

West Coast of Fl has a totally different feel than the east coast. Live in the Cape Coral Fl area, any kind of boating you want. Caloosahatchee River, Gulf Of Mexico, Charlotte Harbor, tons of inshore places to boat, explore, fish. Sandbars, Keys, and restaurants. But..... its old Florida. Someone posted above about Punta Gorda. That's just north of me a nice town if you want the old town feeling. Life moves slow on this side....nothing like West Palm, Ft Lauderdale, or Miami. Cant speak of Ft. Pierce or Stuart just passed through them. Problem over here is jobs....their aren't a lot for young people unless you do construction. New houses going up every where. Their are some other jobs, mostly in the retail trades, or service industries. If you are HVAC you always will have a job in Fl.
Traffic isn't bad, you don't need to speak Spanish to communicate. You will see the occasional lifted Pickup Truck if that offends you then this side of Fl probably isn't for you. But it suits me just fine.

The longer I live here, the more I travel and explore other areas of the state, the more I appreciate where I live. I am just South of Daytona beach by 10 miles and there is always something going on in one of the areas close by. In addition to all of the local festivals and celebrations we have the car stuff (turkey rod run, Volkswagen meet, jeep week, speed weeks, fourth of July race, and great local oval and dirt tracks). We have motorcycle events-bike week and biketober. We are 800 feet from salt water and 15 miles to one of the nicest fresh water rivers in the state (St. Johns). I can go eat a decent oceanfront dinner for $20.00, I can take my boat to dinner at several local restaurants and not be charged for a slip or have to worry about parking. We have easy access to commercial airports (Daytona, Sanford, and Orlando). Real estate is less expensive then almost any other desirable coastal area and we are also the shark bite capital of the world!!!
The biggest difference that I notice when I go South or to the West coast for an event or to see friends is the amount of traffic that other areas have in comparison to us. That and our temperatures don't bother me with a constant ocean breeze-go to Orlando or Tampa in the summer always feels hot to me.
I made the move down here 14 years ago and only wish that I had done it earlier.
Joe
