Supposed to check oil every day and replace every 100 hours (basically 4 full days) on most of them.

As long as you keep up the oil level, yer golden for awhile. I wouldn't worry about changing the oil unless it's real dirty. It's pretty unlikely to get that dirty (through dirty air) in a flood.
To fish or not to fish? What a STUPID question.

When the oil (probably the additive package) is used up, the oil consumption will increase dramatically... meaning you might all of a sudden run out of oil in the middle of the night and seize up your generator. It has nothing to do with "dirt".

We logged daily oil consumption on a fleet of heavy trucks, and they all followed the same pattern; a couple days before they were due for service, the oil consumption would start to spike... after the oil change it would go back to normal. It had to be the oil (or the additives in the oil) getting used up.
