He was the founder of dcb. He is leaving HIS baby. When a company gets big, it can get out of the founders control. Obvious that there were conflicts within the company. I have seen this happen personally and it usually stems from a change in direction of the product being produced. IE: Production increases without the attention to quality they once had, or a drastic design change..Bad news any way it happened.

Looks like both things I suspected happened, or are about to. New guy brings in wheelbarrows full of cash and want to hold the steering wheel. Dave may have welcomed a vaca at this point instead of hanging around and watching it happen.

Look what happened with Cougar Boats Canada, new guys thought they could improve and now no more Cougars.

I have followed Dave and his work since 1998. Dave has been an inspiration to me along with many other builders. Dave's gelcoat and rigging in my opinion is second to no one. This is truly a sad deal, but after hearing from the DCB camp on what happened, it is even more sad and just shows how any of us can get in a rut when the economy dips and be forced into making drastic decisions. Good luck to Dave on any new venture he endures and good luck to all of the crew at DCB. Todd

Wow!! I've always loved his boats. Its a shame that these things happen in business. Especially when its one that you created and built.

I doubt quality will drop without Dave there. It seems like his departure was several years ago and the partner that came aboard has the same passion for these boats and the integrity probably wont be lost.

As for Daves future in boats,Im sure there is a no compete clause that wont allow him to open up shop anytime soon. I wish him best of luck all the same.
