So Canada has elected a conservative Prime Minister ehhh?
Prime Minister-elect Stephen Harper pledged to quickly carry out his campaign promises to cut taxes, get tough on crime and repair strained ties with Washington after his Conservative Party won national elections and ended 13 years of Liberal Party rule in Canada.

Yeah I love it
All the obstructionists talk about him having a minority rule just like Merkel in Germany. So essentially the socialists in those governments don't care what the people want. Regardless, it has been fun to watch history unfold. All the morons that said the World hates the US........

eh
We'll see how Harper does. He will have quite a time dealing with the senate and the majority of Judges.
Good Luck is all I can say, farewell Mr. Martin.-child

The Conservative platform was detailed beside the Liberal platform in the Globe, our national newspaper, on Saturday. There was very little difference between the parties.
Did the Conservatives mislead the public to get elected? Even if they did, since they only have a minority does it matter? I like minority governments in Canada because we don't have the checks and balances of the US system. A prime minister with a majority has very few constraints in Canada.
The following link examines the ties between the Canadian conservatives and the Strauss movement in the US.

I am not comfortable with the cynicism of the Strauss movement.

Change is good Hopefully he won't steal 250 million from us like Martin did. Pretty sad when you have to say that Personally I would have liked to see Jack Layton up there.

Ok he didn't, but when he was in control it was grossly mismanaged, and questionable. Hopefully that won't happen with the conservatives.

No remaining Liberals in the Hamilton area!
Because of the steel mills we'll always have some NDP, but other than that a total Conservative sweep. SWEET!
And Jeff, I did vote NDP when I was young and didn't know any better.Chris Lacey <'((><

10.5 Tunnel, anyone who would give Smilin Jack the keys to the vault never lived in Toronto. Jack would tax and spend us all directly into the poor house. Reminds me of a song. " Tax the rich, feed the poor, till there are no rich no more."
He is a two faced hypocritical nightmare. He smiles and glad hands and talks of equality and public healthcare. He lived for years in Toronto in subsidised housing with his wife, Olivia Chow while they were both city councillors making over 150 grand combined income and got pissed when it was exposed in the media. He went to a private health center to have surgery. He left municipal politics for Provincial politics and more power/fame/money. He left there for Ottawa for the same reasons. He has lived off the public trough for most of his employable life and so has his wife. He says he represents the worker, the common man but in reality, he represents all that is screwed up with a socially enginered country. He's a joke.
Harper, although unproven is at least a breath of fresh air. Not some uppitty up leftist socialist lawyer from Quebec like oh too many of our national leaders have been. He at least has a chance of understanding the average Canadians wants and needs. When has a multi millionaire upper crusty( read LIBERAL LEADER) ever given a dam about the middle class in this country? Maybe, if Harper can do what he says he wants to, all of our pockets can stay a little fatter and the waste and theivery that Ottawa has become will subside.Airpacker

Ya Airpacker, you NAILED that one.
The NDP beleive in taking from those who work and giving to those who don't. And as mentioned above, he is power hungary.
Any vote for the Liberals, is a vote that condones Lieing, stealing and breaking promises.
