    Splitting 84' Merc 115 block/mid

I'm trying to split the powerhead of an 84' Merc 115 in line six from the mid-section. I can't get it to separate though...What do I need to do?

I have taken all the attachments off. Removed the eight powerhead mounting bolt nuts. Tried to lift off with a come-a-long. Tried giving it a couple of "love taps" and the thing won't budge.

Am I forgetting to loosen something else??

    Any tricks I could try?

    Thanks for any help!!!!!!!!

Just did the same job on my L6 ( same year/model ), my came right off .
But I had removed the lower unit first , this gave me the opportunity to rock the power head back and forth some times , this way it came lose from the gaskets .
If you don't want to remove the LU , you have to lift the power head straight up .

One way to help is to use a lifting eye on the flywheel , fasten a rope/wire/ chain up to the roof ( or other object ) , you might still use some gentle violence ( soft mallet or a wood beam )

You got all the bolts , so my guess it's the drive shaft that's holding .

You might do some reading too, here

I'm using a lifting ring and an overhead come-a-long to attempt to pull it straight off.

I'll try removing the lower unit.

Thanks for the advise and the link to the similar thread!!

If you got the engine still mounted on the boat and the boat on a trailer , you can use it as a leverage .
Lower the trailer in front ,then tighten up the chain mounted from the lifting eye to whatever you are using ( it needs to be able to support some weight ) , then you can try to lift the trailer in front .

This will give you a good down force on the lower part of you engine .
It still might need some persuasion thou .

    Good luck
