Does his ladder say Sign Writer ?
A sign writer needs a steady hand. He uses his pinkie finger to maintain his steady touch.

...as well as the aluminum pole in his left hand, that has a rubber cap on the end of it, that he rests on the side of the boat, to rest his arm/elbow on. most sign painters use this tool too.

...and to think that all that, had to be sanded down to noth'n , primered, sanded again, masked & taped & sprayed with the colors, runs fixed/sanded & buffed...all before calling the sign painter & having done all the photo research. quite a bit of work...

You would be hard pressed to find anyone using this technique today. All done with 2D plotters and vinyl. Even sculptors are "cheating" using 3D printers.

The twin engines' sound is nice, better than the single outboard.
This sound is only heard in select events nowadays.

This video event is in Australia.

Havasu 1969 the first hour Bill Petty leads the field of 114 race boats.

But per the video Title Drive, this is what happen to Bill Petty's boat.

Bill Petty of Wapakoneta, Ohio, driving a, "deep-vee" hull powered by, "triple Mercury engines", jumped into the lead and held it for 1 1/2 hours. While cutting a corner,"too close to the shore," he took out two propellers and the lower unit of one of the engines.

Incredibly, Mercury's,"six man pit crew", miraculously repaired the damage to the boat and the lower unit damage in 20 minutes flat! But, by then it was too late. OMC's Cesare Scotti, a "tough little Italian marine operator", had taken the lead for good!

Free of the chop - for power, Scotti had dual Evinrude X-115's bolted on his transom. For a hull, he had one of the new, "tunnel hulls" designed by his countryman, Angello Molinari.
