Chick said that Gary died a few years ago while living in California. Sorry, but I don't know any more than that.

This is the image that always comes to mind when I think of The Flying Fowl ..... always makes me smile.

In the background of this picture is an orange and white "Banshee". This was my only SJ ride. Ran it just a few times. Not very competitive. Very difficult to drive. Single Ride Guide on a round bottom boat. The good news was it wasn't my boat.

I don't know what AMD is looking at that causes him to use the word 'ancient', but certainly the Stylecraft with the triple Chrysler's doesn't fit that category.
As a matter of fact, ancient isn't even a bad thing. If you don't believe me, check out this photo ..... it's pretty tough to be more ancient and have more fun than this dude .....

    Bob Switzer at Lake X.

This boat might be the precursor to Switzer Wing boat 700 & 7000, or it might have later became one of them.
The beginning era when 1960's Outboard power, starts to become a rival to inboards.

Looks like the 700 boat. The 7000 boat looked a little leaner to me.

Wing boats (especially Switzer Wings) give Outboards a lift in speed increase.

My speculation, after looking at the photos below, is this sequence of events.

Bob Switzer drives the unnumbered wing at Lake X, and Mr. K is impressed.
Then Mr. K purchases the race boat, and orders another sister boat from Bob.
The unnumbered Switzer Wing is now christened boat 700.
Add another number zero, and the second acquired boat is 7000.

Another Wing getting airlifted by Outboard Power.

East coast to West coast, wings take flight over USA waters in the 1960's.

Sounds reasonable to me. I have been told that every wooden wing boat was different from all the others. The picture of the 7000 boat aired oput is a classic.
