Before I answer I thought I would throw up a couple more to wet you whistle. The note on the back says Captain Billy (Bill Whitney) and Gary Bell 1962 Twin Mark 58's. Looking at the photo I wonder if that isn't the nose off the Hydro That's a Joke!!! Bill told me the extended nose was worth about 2 to 3 mph and made the boat a pleasure to drive over the prevouis year.

I am going to go ahead and insert another picture for some reason I can't figure out how to rotate it if some one can help to get them right side up I would be greatful. The notes on the back of this one reads Captain Billy (Bill Whitney) and is faithful co rider Gary Bell in 1962 in a 14 ft PowerCat with twin Mark 58's. It was a 13 race season they finished 1st 12 times and had a DNF for the 13th race. Gary figured they had it wiped so towards the end of the race he decides he is tired of riding in the back and starts to come forward trips over the fuel line and over the side he goes. Bill was around the turn headed for home looks over his shoulder and no Gary so much for the perfect season.

    DoubleEagle:
Trying to ID the race location, Is this the old lagoon at Carlsbad, CA ?
Ron Hill says he thinks it's Lake Casitas, CA ?
I see this was a Leo Wildman photo, would love to find his photo archive,
there would be thousands of boat racing action shots from the 50's and
60's. He was everywhere on the west coast back in those years.

Here is a production model of Stylecraft that was just purchased by one of our Power Cat owners group, it is slated for
restoration. You can see the similarities to the Supercat hull that Viking made.

and wood decks but they did have a "sport" version that had a fiberglass deck. Harold Eis's cat started life as an original Stylecraft hull but he made many modifications to it over its life and in his later entries he listed it as an "Eis Supercat" of his own design. His 3rd place finish in 1971 Havasu is quite a feat when you consider he was using a hull that was considered obsolete by almost every other racer at that time.

I was scanning some 8x10's and came across these. I know they don't fit but hope you all enjoy them just the same.

I saw Chrysler Crew run in San Diego's Mission Bay in 1967. Mira Slovak drove it after he put on the best air show I ever saw. Billy Shumacher in Miss Bardahl was King of the bay that day.

I should have offered you a beer, sorry bout that.. That was the first time I ever saw them run. The tails were amazing coming to the start, and then they seemed to double in size.. I'm glad I was filming them. It was a real thrill. We were next to Nordskog's pits when the GN boats ran. One of his boats flipped right in front of us. Killed the guy. Was pretty sad.

    symetrical vs asymetrical

I am needing to replace a friends 30' Cobra cat with new. The new boat needs to be lighter, (we have the technology), better riding and better as a fishing boat. We have a clean sheet of paper to start from. Why have the symmetrical hull cats gone by the wayside. In one picture I see a Molinari and a symmetrical hulled race cat on the same course. Is there a reason that the current fast cats all have vertical tunnel walls? My 22' cat has nearly symmetrical round bottom hulls, but it was never intended to be fast. We did get 60 mph out of it however it sure seams like we should have gotten more. The Cobra cat got 88 mph from a pair of 250 4 stroke Yamaha's.

My Dad and Uncle on their way to Catalina Island 1957 or 1958, 13' 6" Arrow Craft with a pair of Mark 58's. My family built Arrow Craft Boats from 1954 to about 1962 out of Anaheim Calif. They were also one of the first if not the first Mercury Dealer in Orange County the shop was later named West Anaheim Marine. A pretty famous Glastron dealership out of Southern California. It was sold to Jim Clinkenbeard and Jim Mclwaine. It was located on the corner of Lincoln and Manchester right down the street from Disneyland

And one for Danny. This is dated 1962 Salton Sea I don't have any other info but who ever it is. There having a great time two in a boat with twins and a Power Cat don't get much better than that.
