Just look at the SSM thread......I think who ever made the 4 inch wanted to mate Merc power heads to OMC lower units such as Hubble and walter petersons.

    Walter Petersen Gearcase

Here's pix of the internals. The pinion is held firmly by a tapered bearing as is the newer Mercury gearcases. For those that know.

High speed Ski boats are bringing back the dual rigs.

When you want to Water Ski over 100 mph with ease, then dual rigs are the new Hot Multiplies.

Outboards solution to keep up with the V8 inboards. And a platform for Mercury to fill too.

I make a few passes and Gary waves me over and asks what's wrong. I said "nothing, why?" He informed me that I wasn't even close to getting this boat up and running the way it should. I knew how high off of the water I felt at speed in the 18's and knew I was much higher now, thought that was all this setup had. He said that he would demonstrate and ran the carb test. I asked what pinhole he was running in ( remember those cable power trim indicators ) and he said about 5 - I had been running in about 3 1/2.

I got back in and slowly pushed the trim past 3 1/2....the boat went up and up and at 5 it felt really high, but it ran much better.....over about a 2' chop. I was fortunate enough to get to do a lot of testing in that boat. When we had it painted black, I remembered that initial experience and decided I'd give the boat a name.....that's the day that "Up, Up and Away" was born.
Bill Willabee were you fond of the hit song UP UP and Away, as I was?
Did the song influence you naming the boat?

I did not realize you named the boat, and not Bill Sirois.

The song was okay. I didn't turn the radio up when it played, but I didn't turn it off either. I definitely borrowed that title when naming the boat. Most people would make the assumption that Sirois named the boat, but the fact is I gave it the name, he just made it famous.
