Seebold's sly smile made me think that he may be humming a song as he idles by the pit area ..... an early Beatles number ..... Listen, do you want to know a secret? ..... would have been very appropriate.

Don't remember if it was Bristol or Paris, some big race in Europe. Strang hands Alex an envelope - in it is a blueprint of the Mercury 3.4 cylinder block. Seems ECK Foundry sent it back to the wrong company! Reminds me of another story - we were packing up after a dealer meeting in North Carolina - OMC had been displaying a lost foam of I think a four cylinder block. A Mercury big wheel had made the comment about getting our hands on it - a certain Merc field rep had overheard it, and kept his eye on the OMC boxed up part. At the loading dock he managed to swtich that package over to our pile of stuff being returned to FDL.

...heck, they probably didn't even notice it was gone... ...shows are a lot of work, but can be a lot of fun too. quite a bit of competitive "rearranging" going on amoungst each others business "friends" & booths...

    Paris 6 Hour 1957 race.

In the early 1970's the prestigious Paris 6 Hour race, was a battle between OMC and Mercury.
I witnessed a couple of those races then, and it had a memorable atmosphere.

The one good thing about working dealer meetings - being the OEM tech guy, I was usually on site several days before the sales dudes, and our show stuff would come in by truck and I would get the stuff to the booth space. This means I had access to the boxes of t shirts and hats! I could do more PR with a box of hats at a boat builder than sales could do with a $3000 dinner! I made sure the working class got a hat or shirt at the show, not just the dealers.

Isn't that the truth, when traveling Europe had to give the border guards going into Spain a box of shirts and hats to cross.
