Parker Enduro 1975, view of most of the competing race boats.
V4, V6, inline 6, inboards and KT power. And wing boats too.

One of the most fascinating looking boats, has to be Dick Sherrer's boat.
Boat 148, a KT power with no steering wheel. Instead Dick had two joy sticks to steer with —hydraulic assisted.

Dick Sherrer at 59 years old, wins the 1986 Parker Enduro.

When I lived in Whittier CA at the time. I went to Dick's dealership around 1980, in the neighboring city of Norwalk, and met the man.

To this day, I only know Dick as a gentleman. And probably on the race course, he was a competitive driver but foremost a gentleman too.

I think Dick decided to retire from tunnel boat racing when safety capsules were mandated in 1988-1989. Brian Daley's win at Havasu later that year did not make Merc people happy at all since his Yamaha was mounted atop a Merc mid section and gearcase. Would have been really hilarious to see somebody try to mount an OMC powerhead aboard a Merc mid section and gearcase or vice versa. I think shaft length, diameter and spline count prevented that? I always thought that OPC racing would have been really different if the mid sections and gearcases had been generic?

    TIIX vs TII .....

An excerpt from a Dick Lanpheer email regarding the development of the TIIX driveshaft housing .....

"Anyway, I digress. On with the TIIX driveshaft housing/midsection. While this was a group effort I regret to tell you that I was the originator of that project. We were seeing some major improvements in the powerhead performance which was primarily due to volumetric efficiency and it was obvious to me that we needed to eliminate any and all restrictions to exhaust flow through the driveshaft housing/midsection."

so was this achieved through the use of the seperate tuner that was on the T2X and the more open mid ? The T2 has its tuner cast into the midsection and is quite different from the T2x tuner set up.

Pic of the topside of the T2 Midsection showing the cast in adapter and then a pic from the bottom showing the single long exhaust snout, also cast into the midsection. these were not removable / replaceable on the T2 mid. The long exhaust snout was only for the bottom three cylinders....

here are the best pics i have of the T2X tuner. this is a separate piece that bolts to the bottom of the block, note the view down the empty midsection. Could this be part of the better exhaust flow for the top three cylinders ? As well as the better made ( not cast, more precise ?? ) snout for the bottom three cylinders? things that make you go Hmmmmmm.....
