Yeah, I agree Willabee does need a shot of Morphine and Steroids up his bum——- and his “HOT SINGLES” is still the best thread ever on Scream and Fly—— Just needs a kick !
Bill claims this is brother Rick———— two peas in a pod if you ask me !
It may be fifty years since I’ve seen it—— but honestly—- how could you forget a face like that ?

Rick vs Bill .....
I admit that I sometimes do get confused about who that is in the picture above, however, I know it's not my brother. Rick is younger and better looking. Featured in Vapor Trail, that picture is either me or R. Redford, hard to tell us apart.
I do have a picture of brother Rick, taken by Powerboat when he was representing Mercury Racing in Australia. He loved being a part of Mercury Racing and really enjoyed the time he spent meeting people and making boats go fast down under.

Ok, so if Rick was featured in VAPOUR TRAIL——— how much did Mr. Ricky charge him for the honour ?

I think Zonkercraft is correct about it being Herings boat before Spencer Dunn got it in 1974.
Yes my SE boat is a Seebold. I went to St. Louis (Fenton) and bought it from Bill himself.
When I went I really wanted to buy the yellow & white Seebold MOD 50 boat that Mike Seebold had, but Mike had decided he wanted to keep it so I bought this one that had a full rear cowling and used to have an OMC on it. I bought one of the new style rear cowlings, painted it to look more like the factory boats and bought a Merc 650XS from Mercury Canada.
Seebold built quite a few SE boats. I think they built 17 or 18 for The Race of Champions, then maybe a few more for the Jeff Brown pre-rigged packages. Mine was quite unique as it had reverse sponson bottoms that I have never seen on any other tunnel.

William—- didn’t Butler Once feature in a Gentex on a Merc ad. .
Dont think I ever saw him without a camera round his neck. ,
He must have more pictures of raceboats than most—— in fact, I bet he has a library full!

Steverino asked the question above on the Molinari Tunnel Boat History thread. I am posting the answer here because I don't want it to get lost amongst all the bitching taking place there. This response doesn't have anything to do with Molinari tunnel boat history anyway.
I didn't attend the Paris 73 event, but I remember the problem. Bob Hering told me he was whipped after only twenty minutes of fighting that torque. I think the drivers tried to hang on for an hour, but I'm not sure if all were able to accomplish even that! I went to the source to get the answer as to why that happened. Dick Lanpheer was in charge of the V6 project as it was being developed for racing at Plt. #6 in Oshkosh. I asked him if he recalled the steering torque issue at Paris 1973. He did and was kind enough to submit the following response. I am responsible for removing a person's name and replacing it with (.....) in Dick's email.

to me
Hey Bill, I thought you had moved to some Swiss chalet high in the Alps! Gosh, you scared me! Anyway, yes I remember the 4-shaft fiasco well! In fact, I am still pissed off about it.
So, here’s the straight scoop. We were having lots of problems with the Speedmaster due to spalling of the pinion and the gear that it meshed with, so the additional torque of the T-3 was a serious problem. Unfortunately, Bob Johnson told (.....) and the next thing I knew I was in Bob’s office with (.....) who had a new, Brilliant idea. You may recall at some earlier point in time someone (I’m almost positive it was Alex) had commissioned a 3-shaft gearcase which was a complete and utter failure. So, (.....) came up with the even dumber idea of a 4-shaft gearcase! So, we designed the damn thing and priced out the castings, gears, etc. The tooling estimates came back and the cost was (remember this was 1973 era) $250,000.00! I told (.....) it was a waste of time and $$$ and he told me I wasn’t forward-looking enough. He not only told me to build and develop the 4-shaft, he also told me that he didn’t want to see any other gearcase on the T-3! Furthermore, he demanded that all T-3’s entered in the Paris race must be equipped with the 4-shaft. At that point he took off for Ireland or somewhere and was not coming back until after the race. So we continued to prepare engines for Paris with 4-shaft gearcases on them, and I was happy I wouldn’t be in Paris to view the up-coming debacle!
So, why did the steering wheel torque increase so dramatically? Now, I no longer remember exact dimensions, but the 4-shaft design resulted in moving the propeller a considerable distance rearward from the steering axis resulting in a huge increase in the lever arm and a resulting huge increase in the steering torque. (.....) had not considered nor would he listen to me when I told him the end result would be disastrous for the poor guy driving the boat! Well, guess what? Tons of time and $$$ out the window and Mercury had egg on their/our face.
Now, here’s the part where my memory fails me. (.....) had demanded that all T-3’s were to be equipped with the 4-shaft but Ron, Ray and myself knew it would never work w/o power assisted steering. So, for the next race after Paris we installed Speedmasters, which was in direct contradiction to my orders! I do not remember when or where that race was held, but I am quite certain it was not in the U.S. In any event the drivers were much happier and I assume we won the race because when (.....) returned he was all happy when I expected him to fire me, whatever the race outcome. Big sigh of relief!
OK, one other thing. The Koblenz race was the first public showing of the T-3. While the engine was ready to go it had not been tested, propped nor anything that made me feel like we should start out with the new engine when it could very well been a complete failure. I could visualize the headlines written by Ann Strang and it wasn’t good, so we did not enter the T-3 in the Koblenz race. However, after the race we decided to give Renato an opportunity to drive it, so it was installed on his boat and he ran it a bit down-stream from the race site. We tried to cover the powerhead but it didn’t stay in place during testing and the OMC guys saw the cowl. One of them came over to me after the test and told me “Carl Kiekhaefer would not like your new engine,” to which I replied “What new Engine?” So, anyway, Bob Herring did not drive the T-3 in the Koblenz race nor did it compete on that occasion.
That’s about it from here, and I am glad to know that you are still with us!
Take care,
Dick

Enjoy.
