Cleaning my engine
How do I get the grease off my white OMC? Not the components, but the outter shell. I know the cowl will be easy to clean and shine, but how about the lower unit? It has grease on it and black spots around the exhaust. What would take all that off fairly easy?

Try a fire restoration shop. They will have a degreaser that'll choke you.

Castrol Super clean get it at wally world $6 or so put in in a spray bottle give her a little and sponge it off, Spray with a ton of water to rinish. This stuff will peel the skin off your hand just ask me??
Also removes all your old wax so plan some time to redo that.
Works great on white walls/tires and for anything else you want to degrease I use it to degrease large truck engines and stuff like that best stuff I've tried

Seriously! If it's oily residue, straight gas should clean it up, and it won't dissolve the paint like some of the strong solvent degreasers will.
By the way, Magic Eraser will take black grease and oil stains off vinyl using only water
I use lots of solvent chemicals at work. Of all the chemicals pictured below sitting on my workbench, I will always try the most gentle cleaner first, which would be the lighter fluid, V&PM Naptha is the same thing. Xylol (aka Xylene)would be the next stronger chemical. Goof-Off (re-labeled F**k-Off ) contains quite a bit of Xylol, as well as some other nastier solvents. Acetone may be certain death to your finish, watch out, it's blended into a lot of those strong cleaners.
I work with this stuff every day.

EDIT: I was just noticing the can with the paintbrush in it against the wall, I decorated it with a marker when I was 5 years old. I was drawing speedboats with rooster tails.Last edited by pyro; 11-26-2005 at 09:36 AM.

Big Al, go to Food Lion and check out the cleaning supplies isle. You'll see the different kinds of Magic Eraser. The stuff works great, and it's pretty cheap too.

The Eraser is nothing more than a chunk of extremely fine-textured lightweight foam, it acts like microscopic bristles, getting into the texture of the vinyl where rags, brushes and chemicals cannot. You saturate it with water and rub gently in SHORT, BRISK strokes. Basically, as you rub, each time you change direction it lifts dirt out of the surface. Even surfaces that feel smooth have microscopic textures that trap dirt, and this will get it out with only water.
It may dull the shine of the vinyl, but if you buff it with a dry cloth after it dries, the shine will come right back. Now the only problem is your seats will have a clean spot where the grease used to be, and you'll have to buy more Erasers to do the whole interior.
Remember: SHORT, quick, back-and-forth strokes, rub GENTLY, otherwise the eraser falls apart quickly. Use LOTS of water. Rinse and squeeze often, put a rag underneath to catch the runs.
It's a simple concept, and it works well.
As for the grease stains on the white motor, USE GAS!!!'89 Hydrostream Vegas XT, '90 Merc 2.4 Bridgeport PCU EFI
