Thread: Any cylinder head guru's?

I've been reading as much stuff as I can get my hands on. I know holley's pretty well after pulling a few a part, and reading an awesome book. Before I did my swap I may have considered that bbc, I thought it would be to costly, but I probably would have been happy with the performance of a mild big block

Big Blocks do a lot more effortlessly, but you already have a good foundation... You can have a nice street runner as long as you strategize a bit... Your doing the best thing by reading up on people that do it for a living, and I recommend you look at what they're doing as a package and not on any one particular sexy component... Think drivability -- think dependability -- think adequate vacuum -- think 6,200 rpm's or less -- think strong power that begins at 3,500 rpm's -- think about torque peak that is no higher in rpm's than your shift recovery point -- think about parts that agree with each other --- THINK HEADS... If you know anyone that want the BBC, I'll take $900 + ship...

Well I already need to get a vacuum canister, I only have 10 hg I may have to do my first ebay purchase ever and get a set of heads from the states. All I can find here are ok heads that have 10k+ on them, for the same amount of money you can get a fresh set that has had some mild port work done from the states. I'm gonna call around the local machine shops to see if they have anything around.

when you decide what heads you want call jerry , might be able to get you a great price . jerry gets great prices on most engine parts ( rods , pistons cranks , can beat jegs and summit prices most of the time . 631-842-1973

hahaha I know there terrible. There just a set of 76cc smogger heads. I didn't even bother putting my new intake on because those heads are comming off. I called a guy with a set of trick flows, he has the bench flow showing them flowing 270 cfm! I think I'm gonna go for them.

Yea no kidding. When I looked up the casting numbers they didn't seem so bad. They do have 2.02 1.6 valves. When I took the intake off I just laughed and thought, I'm not doing anything elese to this motor until those heads are gone! Even people that know nothing about cars look at the ports and say "Shouldn't those match up?" lol

I put a set of 14101083 cast TPI camaro heads on my TBI 95 half ton, they seem to work pretty good but I spent about 40 sparetime hours cleaning them up

Yea I had a set off my 305 tpi, they were 416's (close to the 083's). I've found a bunch of people selling the old camel humps, but by the time I pay to have they worked, I might as well just go for a nice set of aftermarkets.

I had a set of worked over Double humps in high school, with 2.02's installed and the combustion chamber was relieved aroud the valves to unshroud them... I would have surely picked noticeable gains with a set of nice modern aluminums... BTW, Trick Flow makes good set of heads that can keep up with any street requirements, and I would have loved to have had the money for a set with my old engine... If you decide to go with them, make sure to see if you have to have your pistons clearanced with the cam that you'll be using... Sometimes the Small Block Fords required it with the larger street cams... Call TF and give them your parts info and they should be able to tell you pretty quick...

Becareful with the Tric Flow twisted wedge heads.... I destroyed a motor with them, and I had 2 friends that did the same. Make real good power but all of us dropped a valve seat that smaked the piston and destryed the head. Mine did the worst I cracked a cylinder and sent the crank out the bottom of the block. I had the trick flow pistons in my motor also.

They used to come in 3 general offering to accomodate a .520 - .540 - .600 lift cams, with 2 valve spring ( 1.25" or 1.47")... Don't be scared of a TF head, just be sure to call them and tell them what you've got... Most 2.02 Trick Flow's flow about 250 cfm at .600 lift, were the ones that you looked at set of ported G2 ( 2.02) or the " R " series which are a 2.08 intake valve...

I bought the set of trick flows. He threw in a set of crane roller rockers so I couldn't resist. Everything on em is brand new. Heres a scan of the flow bench from the machine shop.
