ID port from starboard pistons
I am assembling a 2.4 and whom ever disassembled it didnt mark which piston went where, 3 have to be replaced due to minor scoring (chrome bores were honable) so now I have ta order de pistons.. how do I descifer which holes need to be replaced.. I have cleaned the tops, no Identifiers there.. ports seem to apear to match eitherway.. what is the easiest nobrainer way to tell which ones go where...

diamond hone... and a lot of patience.. it had just enough bite to re scuff the cyl walls and remove any minor scoring and aluminum flakes in the bore from the 2 cyl that hung up.. pistons were trashed but the boor was salvageable.. scotchbrite migh have been faster..... it took like 4 hrs to get all 6 holes to where even the black carbon residue and what not was cleaned off and a clean bore even began to show up... measured the bore after cleaning and running the hone and it was 3.377-3.378 and pistons I got measure 3.370 so shouldnt be to loose...
once I get it together we shal see how long she lives... this is the first engine that I have built that isnt just a stock engine.. I plan to port the pistons in a similar fasion to t-rex's cherry 2.4.. I hope to get 200 or there abouts hp from her.. will know when she fires up the first time...
this wasnt about the chrome bore it is about ID which side goes where without any markings telling port or starboard...

Nick, I have a couple of Wiseco's at the shop. When I get in I'll post a pic showing the port next to the star, maybe this will help you out.

it might, please do.. I want to be sure that the $hit lines up... it would have been easier to have the crap marked.. guess the guy I got this engine from didnt care that much.. it was tore down before I got my hands on it... this isnt a normal issue I run into...

piston ID
Nick,
Take a look inside the piston skirt normally it has a 5 digit number ending with letter P for port or S for Starboard , make sure that the position of the piston will place the Large hole in the piston skirt directly opposite the exhaust port in the cylinder wall.
hope this helps

line up the wrist pins with ex skirt towards the center . If it is on the wrong side the skirt wont cover the exhaust port.
